Laptop coolers

Green House, a Japanese manufacturer of electronics accessories, has released a new series of laptop cooling units made from aluminum plate.

The units, which require no internal installation, attach directly to the top of clamshell laptops. Green House says that the new cooling units will increase laptop performance by keeping running temperatures cooler.

The new product comes in two-fan (2,180 yen) and three-fan (2,680 yen) varieties.

Faster processors increase performance not this kind of gimmick. If the laptop gets too hot its time to reconsider if one has purchased the right product for ones needs, or if the machine is too old to run current programs.

I use a big electric fan on my G4 all the time, because it can really get hot...the electric power pack that is.

Every machine has performance thresholds when it comes to heat. I bought a high end laptop and when it gets to hot the graphics performance decreases. These keep everything working nice and smooth.

Is the price high? not sure, about 7~10% of the cost of laptop !

I might buy one for my Sony Vaio. The internal fan is so loud that I have problems hearing a movie! Been back to Sony twice but the warranty has now run out.

many people put their laptops on non-flat areas (soft beds, chairs, carpeted floors, even a lap) blocking the air vents and overheating said laptop. -Be careful of that.

If it works I'd be on it. Laptop coolers do work and help keep it from burning up. I've had this laptop since '06 with a Targus $20 USD cooling pad and I've never had any heating problems, GFX card burn outs, etc.

Well worth the investment if they're affordable and cheap.

Does it attach to the "top of clamshell laptops"?? How can it cool the internals underneath the keyboard when the thing is stuck to the back of the screen??

some14some, what kind of cheap a$$ laptops do you buy? I've got a friend who uses something like this. Works like a charm. Good investment.

Everything eventually breaks down, but anything that helps cool the laptop lengthens the life of the laptop. Generally, the more powerful the laptop, the hotter it gets (kinda like a car with turbocharger), and the shorter the lifespan of the engine. Also, the hotter the parts get, the efficiency goes down, the lower the performance.
