Long lines aren’t a problem with Thanko Back Pack Chair

Japan is undergoing a wave of overtourism brought about by the weakening yen. With over 3 milli0n visitors in March (as reported by the Japan National Tourism Organization), it’s no wonder long, winding lines in front of restaurants and retailers have become an everyday occurrence. Standing for hours and walking from district to district can leave you feeling stiff, sore and fatigued.

If you’re on the market for a new travel bag, why not check out the Thanko Back Pack Chair? As the name suggests, the Back Pack Chair has a built-in chair attachment that can be assembled in just a few seconds. Featuring a sleek all-black design and plush padding, the backpack is roomy with enough space for your gadgets and other day-to-day essentials. Gone are the days of standing in line, now you can sit back and relax as you wait your turn.

The Back Pack Chair is available on the Thanko online store and is ¥14,800.

I would have thought that these days there would be an app for your mobile phone for this.

Funny that even with this advertising they have a pop at tourists. I would have been hard put to connect a portable chair with over-tourism but I guess it shows how central it is to thinking.

you would have been correct.

On the other hand, it's a great idea. Take it from me. I'm old and lines hurt more and more as time goes by. I don't care if it's not on an app or not. If I can get one, that's all I want. Go to Disney World (and Land) and see lines that put Japan's in the minor leagues by comparison.

Hold the line.

Instead of the usual sugary ‘new products’ this item looks like something that ai could definitely use.

I see it being far more useful for Japanese festivals and other public events, which never have enough seating.

Now oldies like me can enjoy Fuji rock again...

Put a hole in the seat, and a plastic bag below, then you have a porta-loo, just right for disaster preparedness.

Too big. I use the small collapsible ones that fit even small waistpacks But it's of course very low, may strain the back

There are walking cane seats popular at horse racing.
