Low-carb bentos from FamilyMart

Major convenience store FamilyMart is selling two new bento (boxed lunch) varieties in its “dancyu diet series” in collaboration with monthly food magazine dancyu.

The new products are “Yuzu-pepper Grilled Chicken Bento with mixed grain rice” (540 yen including tax) and “Nozawana and Cheese Omusubi” (128 yen including tax). The amount of carbohydrates per bento is 29.5 grams which is less than half the amount of a usual lunch box. The rice balls have 20% fewer carbs.

The bentos are available at 15,000 FamilyMart stores in Japan except Hokkaido.

This looks like a bodybuilding meal - healthy carbs, relatively lean protein, some veggies. Macronutrients are very evenly balanced.

Good stuff !

Low carb bento?? Rather have a low-carb burger. Hamburger patty (topped w/tomato, onion slice) wrapped in lettuce.

Getting ready for summer, I've been hitting the gym for the past couple of months. Along with this, I've been eating a lot of Mos Burger's lettuce burgers lately. They have about eight burgers that they offer with the option of using lettuce instead of a bun. They call it 'natsumi'.

I love the variety of obentos and other food at 7/11, I just wish they'd offer low-salt versions. If I eat three onigiri (for example) I'm already at my daily limit for sodium intake

There's more to look at than just carbs. All of FamilyMart's foods are quite high in sodium, however, higher than 7/11 and Lawson, just to name a couple others. (Assuming labels are truthful)

@Strangerland . . . . you're on the right track. But wouldn't be better if you grill those patties urself?

The lettuce & all the other goodies you wish to add are all there too @ur supermarket. Make sure to use high-quality "sumi" (charcoal) . . . . . it makes almost as much as difference as the 80/20 ratio of ground beef.

btw . . . .MOS burger is wayyy behind the times. Low Carb Burgers have been available for a while-
