Elecom's USB link cable UC-TV3BK will make your life much easier when you transfer data between computers.
When support for Windows XP ends on April 2014, many people might be buying a new PC. Buying a new PC is always exciting but it will be a pain to transfer all the existing data in the current PC to the new one.
Connect a PC with XP and a PC with 7/8 with UC-TV3BK and install the dedicated utility program that is built in to UC-TV3BK. Now you are ready for data transfer, so simply drag folders or files saved in XP and drop them in 7/8.
Also, you can control both PCs connected to each other with the mouse and keyboard of one of the PCs. That will help smoother data transfer process.
Price: 5,313 yen (including tax) OS: Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 Length of cable: About 1.2m Interface: USB2.0/1.1

Or you could buy an external HD dump your stuff from your old computer there and transfer it from there. That way, after you transfer your data, you're not left with a cord you prolly won't use again. Instead you're left with a back up external HD that you can store important pictures, videos, docs, etc.

You can buy an 500 GB external HDD for Y4683, which is cheaper than this Windows-only cable.

Or take out the harrdrive from old computer and put it into an external harddrive case. Probably less than 1000 yen

transfer HDD to HDD is much quicker and safer otherwise just back up onto external HDD for the same price and these days a 64GB or more SD Card should be enough for most people.

I already have two external HDDs (for "extra" memory when the first one became too small)

It is easy enough to network two computers and faster than USB. You probably have enough network cables. If not, you can get them from 100 yen shops.

what's so new about this? these usb devices have been around for over 10 years and i see no improvements in this one! It's not even usb 3.0

Or save your bucks and use the Cloud for storage and transfers. As was said old and obsolete tech.

So you have two computers and don't have a router? C'mon you don't need anything else to transfer files between computers. At this very moment I'm working with to computers sharing files, mouse and keyboard with just my wi-fi connection.
