The lens is capable of taking shots at 14.2 megapixels. What is the camera capable of? Does the lens have to be connected to a different camera to take 14.2 megapixels photos?

The camera takes shots at 12 megapixels, and unfortunately not the same megapixels as the lens. They're working on a fix.

"LCD touch-screen"? I check camera sites daily and this is the first I heard of this, I think it's just a regular LCD.

Anyway, this camera is a great shot in the arm for Nikon, as aside from having the latest 14.2mp CMOS sensor, it can autofocus at a decent speed whilst taking 1080p videos; something DSLRs have been unable to do until now.

I dont like Nikons. Nikons are dangerous though this one looks eco navi! I feel comfortable with canon!

If you through a Canon hard enough it can be quite dangerous.

Teachmeteachyou is right, as far as I an see. No touch screen advertised on any of the websites I saw.

http://www.dpreview.com/previews/Nikond3100/ The D7000 is expected to be announced shortly as well with similar specs to the D300. An announcement from Pentax as well tomorrow rumoured to be brining out two DSLRS in both the above categories....entry level/semi pros. Hang on to your seats camera fans.

I would prefer the D90 because it is a semi pro model, better build quality & more features. The price is around $900. The D3100 will come in at $699 which is really not that much more than the D5000 currently.

Yep the D3100 is a bit of yawn for camera buffs, but this camera isn't really targeted at them.

As masterkun noted, the D7000 is a much more newsworthy item... just released today.

But I have too much of an investment in Canon lenses, so it's the 7D for me.
