Too late. Today's smart phones are capable of being reliable palm-sized desktops. By using say an iPhone6 as a CPU, you can augment the device with a Bluetooth keyboard and a Magic Mouse. For display, you can use an HDMI cable to connect to desktop sized monitors or even screen projectors. A number of productivity apps already exist for download, such as Microsoft Office.

Furthermore, with many applications being hosted in the cloud, there is little need to install them locally on your machine.

Pandabelle,

Hackintoshes are easy to make.

Have you tried explaining that to the Apple legal department?

Also, with the Mac Mini you can run OSX, Windows, Linux or Unix or all four.

You can run anything you want on this one, too. Why wouldn't you be able to? Hackintoshes are easy to make.

This is a very small device, too - perfect for media center (connected to a NAS).

So you can run OSX.

don't have to hack it to run OSX.

Why would you want to?

"They look remarkably like the Apple Mini,"

Except they are about half the size n terms of volume than the Apples being sold now. If you need something really small, the Asus ones are the ones to have.

Ah_so,

You are quite right. My pricing information was out of date.

The SSD's in the Asus models above are good, but tiny. The 1 or 2 Terabyte fusion storage in the Mac Mini is much more usable. Also, with the Mac Mini you can run OSX, Windows, Linux or Unix or all four.

Better value, as you say.

Except that the Apple mini is cheaper and you don't have to hack it to run OSX.

Just had a look - the Apple is a bit more expensive than the cheaper model, but appears to be far better value.

the next stage is for cell phones to also have this type of functionality i.e. function as mobile PCs that can be easily plugged into a VD, keyboard and mouse. This would be great for businesses and private users alike.

Did I hear someone say ´middle ages´ there? OH wait, it was ´2005´ XD

They look remarkably like the Apple Mini, which debuted in 2005.

Except that the Apple mini is cheaper and you don't have to hack it to run OSX.
