Plugged in

Spring is in the air — and unfortunately so is pollen. March is hay fever ("kafunsho") month in Japan, when the entire population seems to suffer from a bout of the sniffles. The Ministry of the Environment does its part by issuing alerts, but what’s one to do besides stay indoors? Well, that’s where Nose Mask Pit comes in. The clear plugs fit in your nostrils and are said to filter out 99.9% of sneeze-inducing particles. Does that include cigarette smoke? Bad perfume? (Metropolis)

Does blocking your nostrils provide complete protection from pollen. Couldn't you breathe it through your mouth too? I guess that's where the mask part comes in, of course...
