By Yoriko Takahashi

Thanko's new portable wind turbine generator will make you feel lucky every time you ride a bicycle or motor bike.

Once you ride a bicycle or motorbike that has the portable wind turbine generator attached to the handle, it starts generating enough electricity for two size AA rechargeable batteries.

Using either of the accompanying 5 connecting cables, the generated power can be fed to smartphones, tablets, iPhones/iPads and things like that. You can also take out the size AA rechargeable batteries and use them for other devices. The portable wind turbine generator itself has a LED light so the saved power can be used for lighting up your ride at night.

The AA rechargeable batteries are not included to the package. Price: ¥4,980 Size: 80.5x69.5x103mm Weight: 124g

It can neither be efficient nor can generate much power. It can drain pockets of some consumers but not enough to pay back the development costs. Isn't it better to do the math before developing a product?

No maths and no pay back worries....BOJ is there with massive liquidity for J-companies.

I bet a front Dynamo hub is more efficient for a bicycle

I have seen a motor attached to a friction wheel against the bicycle wheel to generate power for front light when I was very very young. I do not see any of those anymore today. So, is this just like re-inventing the wheel?

About 80 years ago electric dynamos for bicycles were invented. The were either attached to the front tire, or installed inside the front hub of the wheel, and when the wheel turns, enough energy is generated to power a headlight and tail light. Many mamacharis today come with a hub dynamo. These hub dynamos create much more energy than this pocket wind turbine, and are much less ugly.

These have been around for a while. i had a wind powered phone charger about 10 years ago now. and a solar one too

You all guys are right, this is probably the most innefficient way to generate electricity. By far a dynamo is the best option, just imagine you go with the wind instead of against it.
