Shape up!

Issey Miyake’s Bilbao Lucent took the fashion world by surprise when it was released under the Pleats Please line in 2007. A lightweight, synthetic purse/handbag whose inside is made from synthetic triangles of material and mesh, Bilbao defies the standard leather pouch design. Its geometric patchwork makes it possible to fold the bag into itself so that it becomes the size of a clutch.

This also makes it easy to set down without tipping over, despite its slim profile when being carried. MoMA Design Store has Miyake’s masterpiece in a new bright red to go with the fall colors. Take it on a daytrip to the countryside and be the envy of Mother Nature. (Beau Miller/Metropolis)

It took the fashion world by surprise? How? Why? It's just a bag. I think the fashion world must be pretty stupid.

Of all things, why did they choose a random car part to compare its size to?

oh my gosh. maybe you can be forgiven altira - but i think they mean a clutch BAG which is very small, sometimes refered to as an evening bag.

It's made of plastic...who would want to pay that much for a plastic bag?
