Snow-covered Mt Fuji ice bars

By grape Japan

It's no stretch to say that Mt Fuji is Japan's most iconic natural symbol. In particular, the image of a clearly visible Mt Fuji blanketed in snow is revered throughout the country and often depicted in the form of souvenirs such as erasers that reveal the mountain with every mistake you make. Mt Fuji has even recently been turned into sweet and fluffy blue-colored bread.

Thanks to maker Lotte, who is known in part for their ice cream and confectionery, Mt Fuji is going through another food transformation--this time with "The Mt Fuji Bar", a popsicle-esque flavored ice bar that looks like Mt Fuji.

Those familiar with ukiyo-e woodblock prints will recognize another iconic symbol of Japan, Katsushika Hokusai's "The Great Wave Off Kanagawa" also printed on the label. The bar has a "double white and blue soda" flavor ("soda" flavor usually describes a flavor similar to Ramune in Japan) to recreate a snow-capped Fuji and it's base, commonly depicted as blue.

The artistic Mt Fuji bars will be released nationwide in Japan on June 29.
