First released in May 1999, Aibo is Sony’s line of robotic dogs. Programmed with AI, no Aibo is alike. Each develops its own unique personality and is influenced by interactions with its owner. Additionally, all are programmed with facial and voice recognition. Just like a real dog, owners can also teach their Aibo tricks and need to “feed” them.
Owners can ask their Aibo to search for people in the household, take photos and report back, kind of like a security dog. Aibo dogs are characterized by their round shape, expressive eyes and life-like movement. It’s a strong contender for those living in spaces that don’t allow pets but want the companionship of a dog.
On August 8, Sony will release a new kinako (soy powder) colorway. This model will also come with two different eye colors to better match the new shade. It’ll be available online and at Sony stores nationwide for ¥272,800.

Perfect for no-pet apartments. It seems pretty capable. Especially for a dog.
