While Starbucks is well-known for adding unique flavors to its range of creamy Frappuccino drinks in Japan, it’s now looking to thrill customers with another collection of lighter beverages designed to perfectly quench a summer thirst.

The “Shaken” tea range, a delicious blend of crushed ice, fruit juice and flavoured tea from Starbucks’ Teavana range, has brought out delights like the Shaken Apple Green Tea earlier this year, but now as summer heats up, they’re turning to some of the season’s most delicious fruits for their next new release.

Called the Shaken Watermelon and Passion Tea, this new drink comes in a gorgeous shade of red, thanks to the star ingredient of watermelon juice, which is said to make the drink taste as if you’re biting into a fresh slice of the juicy red fruit.

The sweetness of the watermelon is said to contrast nicely with the slightly tart flavour of the “Passion Tea“, which is a blend of hibiscus flowers, papaya, mango and lemon grass. The drink is finished off with a slice of freeze-dried lime, to bring a final hit of citrus to the mix, for a refreshing aftertaste.

Available in four sizes, from Short through to Venti, the Shaken Watermelon Passion Tea is priced from 390- 510 yen (US$3.50-$4.60), and can be purchased at outlets around the country from June 28 to Aug 31.

It is a lot to pay but sounds great on a hot day.

Japan and its "limited time" BS. If something is popular, keep selling it. You have to love the Aug. 31st "deadline" on everything, like it stops being hot September first so you can't sell cool drinks anymore or swim at public beaches. It took them nearly a decade to keep the mango passion tea frapp on the menu year-round and not affix the "sold out" sticker on the menu from 9/1.
