U.S. McDonald’s french fry fork to hit Japan, leaves everyone confused

A few months ago, McDonald’s U.S. decided to throw logic out the window by inventing a french fry fork, dubbed the FRORK. Comprising a silicone fork with a hole where the prongs should be, the utensil lets consumers insert three french fries to create their very own edible fork.

Commercials claim that the FRORK is the perfect tool to wipe up any sauce spilled from burgers, which we have to say is a bit of a stretch. Other than being a novelty item, it’s hard to imagine it has any other use besides edible entertainment and/or forking frustration.

Although the bizarre FRORK was created in America, McDonald’s deems that its design fits well into Japan’s long standing tradition of crazy inventions, and has promised that the FRORK will be available in Japanese McDonald’s stores starting Oct 20.

The majority of Japanese netizens were dumbfounded by the idea:

“You can’t use it as a proper fork, and what do you do with it after biting off those three fries? Just eat them normally!”

“It has value if it allows me to eat fries without dirtying my hands.”

“Don’t play with your food.”

“Make the red part edible too.”

“After one or two uses, this fork would probably disappear in my home.”

To be fair though, the FRORK does seem to be a great conversation starter and a fun toy for children. It’s also a great addition to the ever growing list of useless inventionscreated by humanity.

i for one think its a great idea! it makes sense too, why bother greasying up your hands when you can use a fork like this. they should have more spaces to insert more fries though. But count me in, im getting one!

This isn't limited to Japan. And their own advertisements say it is 'uselessly useful'.

People should also be aware of the unhealthy aspects of eating too many French fries.

@Luddite

Thanks.

I was being (pretty childishly) sarcastic, though.... ; )

@lucabrasi Danny Baker pointed out this week that working class places to eat are always called shops - fish and chip shop, kebab shop, pie mash shop, chicken shop etc. McDonald's is more of a shop than a restaurant.

@Educator

”shops”?

Surely you mean “restaurants”?

This is McDonald’s, not some kind of low-class burger joint....

How does a unanimous verdict of “utter bloody nonsense” equate to “confusion”?

A bit like the local politicians when their ideas are rejected due to a “lack of clear understanding” on the part of the electorate....

Hey, they finally found a use for their fries, imho the worst fries I have ever tasted.

This is the most "débile" idea I have seen lately.

Then again, the Japanese are easily confused by pretty well everything.

This type of foolishness just ensures that I never willingly set foot in McDonald's restaurants

Utter waste of money and energy. That non-biodegradable, non-recyclable plastic handle will end up on the in the trash or not the pavement within minutes.

Idiots.
