Velvetiser creates barista-grade hot chocolate

The Velvetiser by Hotel Chocolat, engineered by Dualit, is a hot chocolate machine that creates barista-grade hot chocolate, made with real grated chocolate flakes, in just 2 1/2 minutes. No need for the resident hot chocolate maker to slave over a hot stove, slowly heating milk and showering cocoa powder.

Instead, simply plug in your Velvetiser, choose your chocolate and your milk – dairy or plant-based, or even water if you prefer – and press the button. Plus, with the removable whisk and non-stick coating, cleaning is easy – just rinse out with cold water.

The Velvetiser comes in three colors: copper, matt charcoal or white.

The Velvetiser will go on sale for 10,000 yen in Japan in mid-December, but orders can be taken from Nov 23 on the Hotel Chocolat online store.

I am a big fan of all things chocolate and coffee related. Living in Southern California, I have had the opportunity to try many varieties of the same. I have noticed that the Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese tea, coffee, and bakery shops often make amazingly good tea, chocolate, and coffee. Had a fantastic mocha coffee just yesterday in a Vietnamese tea shop. One of my prized finds was at a Korean bakery. They combined espresso, chocolate, red bean (azuki), and cinnamon into a mind-blowing concoction. Just saying. I count myself lucky to be able to enjoy so many treats. Of course, I spend a lot of time at my local Starbucks.

Reading about all the different things available in Japan makes me a bit jealous.

This is actually a UK originated product.  whenever I go to the UK I buy some of their chocolates.  and bought one of these last time I was there.  Makes great drink.  Have run out of the chocolate now so must buy more.  but it also works with other brands of chocolate or powder.

I shed tears of joy when Hotel Chocolate came to Japan.

I love their stuff.

And the price helps prevent me from over-indulging.

The Velvetiser is on my Christmas list.

slowly heating milk and showering cocoa powder.

You could always just put your cocoa powder and sugar in a cup, add a tiny bit of hot water from a kettle to dissolve everything, top up with milk, and then heat in the microwave. If you use good milk, like the pasteurized stuff, the water is unnoticeable. Unmarked Van Houten cocoa is available at a decent price on Amazon JP in big bags. Its much cheaper than supermarkets. VH is a decent baseline for hot chocolate and making chocolate cakes.

This machine may well do something on another level, but there are already ways to avoid slowly heating milk and showering cocoa powder.

For sure, whoever wrote this article has been making hot chocolate the wrong way...
