That's a bold statement; any proof?

Also, what do they mean by "dryer"? Do they mean hot air so my laundry will come out warm and if I fold it quickly I won't have to bother with ironing? Or do they actually mean that it just spins it dry and blows cold air on it so it'll come out dry, but a crumpled mess that takes hours to iron?

This is why I use the coin laundry dryers, because if I take the laundry out quickly (while its still hot), fold it properly and stack it carefully then I don't have to do any ironing. A HUGE time-saver.

a little pricey . 35 minutes to wash, how long to dry ?

we have this model :D it is good for washing, the dryer part works, but I find that somehow water is still present in the walls so there is a smell that lingers in the laundry this smell can be diffused (better word people???) by using softener like downy with stronger smell in the wash cycle the dry cycle is typically 1 hour it does get things clean well though on the wash cycle

About 20 years ago, I lived in an apartment (in the U.S.) that had a combination washer/dryer machine--in the kitchen, European-style--that basically steamed the clothes after the wash cycle. It would take a couple of hours, at least, for them to dry, and shrinkage was horrific. I hope the technology has advanced somewhat since then!!

Stupid design. This kind of 2-in-1 design is fine if you always have just one load of laundry to do but it's absolutely useless and counterproductive if need to do a second load and have to wait for the first one to dry first.

Seriously? I have had a dryer combo for 10 years, and the 35 minutes claim is only wash only not including dryer

Where can I get this in the US?

Is this a "Energy Star" product? Can I use a regular detergent? How many wash/drying cycles does it have? Is this for a small family use?

LG brought out a similar machine about three years back in the USA. The dryer was totally ineffective, the clothes came out "strangled" and damp, and we still had to use our old dryer and nothing we did would get the wrinkles out. We returned it to LG based on false performance claims.

So, if one half breaks and needs to be repaired, you cannot use the other half. This is a bad idea and they are already out there on the market. I never use a dry nor an iron. Pays to be an artsy type of guy.

Will it have a button inside that children can alert the police that their parents have trapped them inside...maybe more useful than a dryer combo in Japan from what some JT articals are reporting. That will be the next big seller for parents in law that are concerned about their grandchildrens well-being.

35 minutes to wash, how long to dry ?

more importantly, how does this affect our utility bills?

dryer function takes 1 hour same as usual utility if you already use a dryer there are cycle selections, to just wash, or to wash and dry , or to just dry personally i like the kabi protect wash cycle (protect against mould)

Manufactured locally... finest quality... superior workmanship.

WHO by the way, needs a dryer in the Kanto region? HELLO? No. Not needed.

Why are front-loading washing machines so expensive in Japan? I could buy a washer/dryer for about Y75000 in the UK, or about 1/4 of the price of this one. Even the top-end German models are only Y175000, plus they have metal cases, not plastic.

Bought my Sanyo washer-dryer for less than half the price. It works fine. The clothes come out dry, not wrinkled, not shrunk.

yong yang, we do, and we live in Saitama, which i believe is in Kanto ? i have a young family and am a laundry freak, i must wash every day, even in winter with the sunshine, it is just cold air, the laundry does not get dry, and if you hang it inside, it gets smelly must be you have more sun where you live??

That should be nice to have.

What's the big news here they have been on the market for years now, and unless it can actually wash and dry 9 kg of clothing then it really isn't anything new, most of these machine can wash 8~9 Kg but can only dry around half that amount.

Remember the trouble that people had with the i-Macs? You know if one part stops working then you can't use anything till that part is fixed with 2 separate machines you can still use one if the other stops and you can wash another load while the first one is in the dryer.

These are only good for single people or perhaps a childless couple but add a few kids and they are more trouble.

Not to mention a good size regular 8 kg washing machine now cost ¥60,000 and a 8 Kg dryer ¥60,000 that's almost a third of what this cost and I'm sure with a little shopping around I can get a lot cheaper the ¥ 60,000 each.

It's good for lazy people. My girlfriend has it and it takes a little over an hour for our small daily loads. Of course, we do save energy and money by drying on the balcony when it's sunny, but it's awesome when the humid/rainy seasons and cold weather comes. It's great if you are considering living here long term.

My Washing machine also has a spin-dry function(different time settings). Granted clothes don't come out fully dry but dry enough to hang indoors for the rainy or cold winter days.

It does help over here in Japan. Having a 10yr old son I need to the washing atleast 3 times a week and can't wait for a nice day to hang them outside.
