Japanese homes do not have enough land for the sorts of garages and carports one finds in the US, Canada or Australia, places where an owner can store a boat on a trailer under a canvas cover, and a truck to tow it to a lake or the ocean on the weekend. It is the ready availability of large urban and suburban lots that makes owning a boat in these countries easier than in Japan. You don't have to pay for a mooring at a harbor or lake somewhere. Just trailer it to and from where ever it is you intend to use it.

I guess I see it differently. I admire that Japan has retained working productive waterfronts and strong shipbuilding and fishing industries. Too many US ports have converted all of their waterfronts from what were once working waterfronts to botiques, fancy restaurants and moorings for yachts few can begin to afford. All the formerly decent paying waterfront jobs went abroad. The fishing fleets are gone. The packing houses are empty shells if they haven't been converted to botiques staffed by employees making half of what the former workers there made. Japan still has fleets of working fishing vessels and packing plants. I admire that.

Why not? Yamaha produces 1.0 liter motorcycle engines making close to 200 horsepower.

Not entirely true. You can rent power boats through the Yamaha Sea Style member system and they look to be nice boats, and though kind of expensivish, its nothing like the cost of personal boat ownership. Agree that Japan has a different culture to western countries on boating though.

You will not see those in Japan. This island country has no boating life because only the very very rich can get one of the far and few slots, and the coastal areas are controlled by the fisherman coops. Shameful.

Six hundred horsepower?

Nice! Tough to beat these bad boys for power and reliability.

Useful for the hour’s commute into the centre of Tokyo then...
