Chinese policy change has nothing to do with the US administration change and everything to do with the election of Tsai Ing Wen and DPP.

China was willing to tolerate KMT presidents, but not DPP presidents.

That is exactly right. The problem now for Beijing is the couple of generations of Taiwanese who have grown up with no connection to mainland China and a believe in elected government. Younger Taiwanese have no affection for China any more and see themselves as a distinct nation. China's abuse of Hong Kong further alienates the Taiwanese. It is clear for all to see what reunification means.

China will bring the whole region to war, then the world. Villainy knows no bounds when you have the bodies to throw on the war pyre. Taiwan has been orphaned by U.N.'s cowardice. They are another loaded gun in China's arsenal...

I can't help but notice that China was not so aggressive with Taiwan until Trump started treating China like a criminal state.

Xi Jinping will want to go down as the man who unified China. We just have to be wary after the US election, if it is not clear and mired in the courts. The same happened in 2000 with Bush and Gore.

The fact that Trump is willing to sell weapons to China does not mean he is not a "disaster." He is the absolute worst president of my lifetime, and I'm old. But regardless of what Trump does or doesn't do, China is hung up on making Taiwan "one" with China and it doesn't give a FF about what the Taiwanese people want, because it doesn't view them as 1) Taiwanese or 2) having any say in the matter.

This is a dangerous flashpoint and people are totally unprepared. China will happily mow down the entire country, and then, because they are still angry at Japan about WWII, they will mow down Japan as well. All of what we are doing now will be forgotten. China will rule the world and the US will be a footnote in history. And Trump isn't helping anything since his mind only orbits about his "feelings." If he doesn't lose, China will happily take him down as they are not going to put up with another 4 years of his incessant badgering and insults.

I feel that investment in military equiment is useless until WW3 hits us in the face until than keep building more.

"The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has certainly embraced Taiwan as it clashed with Beijing on a host of issues. Trump has been much more willing than his recent predecessors to sell major weapon systems to Taiwan's out-gunned forces."

Trump has not been such a disaster after all, unlike the impression given by majority of people posting on this forum.
