The phenomenon of left-leaning Americans becoming "Canada-curious" after a Republican election victory predates Trump.

One side of the family by marriage is from up around Syracuse originally and is taking a drive up to Canada during the winter break. Canadian-curious yes but unfortunately the means barrier is harsh.

The Safe Third Country Agreement between Canada and the United States was expanded in 2023, making it harder for anyone coming from the U.S. to claim asylum in Canada.

Thankfully those US citizens that feel unsafe can still make the claim and there will probably be ample evidence to support them.

Americans who say they'll move up a different country, just because their candidate lost, are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites. Democracy only when convenient to them but not for everyone else.

world is big, sell your property and go to live somewhere else.

your life-your choice.

why is this to be considered as a "newsworthy"?

Pay the cash to do a degree at a Canadian university. That's three years, or six if you follow it with a PhD. By then you may have a job offer or a Canadian partner.

If you have a family, the state-within-a-state option is your best shot. A Democrat state will insulate you from much of what Trump will/can do. If he wrecks the education system, home tutor.

What politicians promise on the campaign trail and what they actually do are rarely the same.

Funny how all these entitled fools think they can just throw a dart at a map and expect to move there with minimum fuss. Turns out it's not so easy. And with Trudeau headed for a thorough thrashing at Canada's next election, all these wannabe escapees would be heading into a Conservative-led country anyway.

Maybe they should consider a with a government more in line with their belief system, such as... Cuba or Venezuela. Not too far from the US, and with governments already in place of the sort they want to inflict on others (not themselves, of course).

Just declare yourself "pro-Hamas" at the border. They'll let you in AND give you a free room at the Queen Elizabeth hotel in Montreal.

17 hours of cold, snowy darkness got you feeling blue in February?

No problem! Medically Assisted in Death (MAID) is the fastest growing craze!

I guarantee the babies that DO move out (ie Ellen Degeneres) in a tantrum will quietly be back within the year.

Not if there are troops on the streets they won't.

More likely in the UK than the US. Starmer is turning his country into one of those socialist s-hole police states Trump mentioned during his last stint in the White House.

France and the UK literally proved the ol axiom "If you let in the Third world, you become the third world".

I wouldn't have my family in London or Paris any more than entertain a week in the Congo.

Not as easy as you think

What is the problem? Can´t these Trump refugees not just ditch their passports, walk across the border and claim asylum?

Scene 1 - Move to Canada to escape Trump the evil fascist dictator

Scene 2 - Trump the dictator annexes Canada ..LOL

I moved from Canada to Japan after I was told flat out at my interview for the education program at York University, "We're not currently accepting applications from while males". I wouldn't move back to that racist country if you gave me a million dollars and a free home!

Please move to Canada from America if you like, won’t miss you. I would be surprised if Canada just mass accepts all of you. What value do you bring them?

plus as was said Canada might just become the 51st state anyway, then how silly would these people look?

Old news. Anyone who tried to defect to Canada to avoid the Vietnam war draft would know.
