100 mil will die by 2030 if world fails to act on climate

2030 is in 18 years :(

I thought that May 5th 2007 was supposed to be the end of the world, what happened to that prediction?

The sky has been falling since humanity has existed and there's always a subset of the population that believes it and runs around like chickens with their heads cut off.

As society rises, politicians tell this kind of lie:

I will promise you free stuff if you elect me and give me your taxes.

As society begins to collapse, they tell this kind of lie:

Society is DOOMED unless you do what I say and give me MORE of your money!

All I can say is that I would expect 100 million people dying will probably have more of an economic impact that 3.2% of GDP.

Then again, in 20 years, about 1/4 people alive now will die (if the average lifespan is about 80 years). So by 2030, over 1 billion people will die regardless of climate change.

Much of the current data being released related to climate change (arctic melting, level of co2 emissions etc) are already exceeding worse case forecasts. You can bet many of the figures above will turn out to be conservative if the corporations and politicians continue with business as usual.

We're in for serious pain unless society gets serious on greenhouse gasses, however I doubt it will happen - we've seen an unprecedented Arctic melt this year and yet it's page 6 news.

Except in this case nobody is running around... Everybody seems to carry on business as usual. I think it will probably only weigh in when some western countries start to be affected. By then it'll be way too late.
