Almost 2/3rds of Chinese electrical production is from the burning of coal, an amazingly dirty source of power. The fact that Chinese leaders have emphasized the production of electrical vehicles does not help our atmosphere, if the EVs are powered with coal. At best, EVs help the Chinese economy in the short term, by helping to minimize the importation of petroleum. Ironically, all those Chinese EVs are probably putting more CO2 and particulates into the air than if the vehicles had fuel efficient and clean burning internal combustion engines, and were powered by petroleum.
