Peaceful and mannered Britain is a misinterpretation, we have moved from periodic rioting in the 18th century to voting but politics has always been a rumbunctious affair, The French people have always resorted to direct action, so the current stramash is just a slightly more extreme form of the norm.

It is only the middle class bubble dwellers who see this as anomalous, the reality is that it is these very same people who have created the problem by wilfully ignoring the reality out side their comfy bubble.
