"The work of the moment and the work of the next four years must be the restoration of democracy and the recovery of respect for the rule of law, and the renewal of a politics that’s about solving problems — not stoking the flames of hate and chaos.”

Mr. Biden's wish will only come to fruition of the right stops calling restraint and compromise "weakness" and they likewise stop calling introspection "self hate".

So how is this poison going to be expelled from the American political system? It won't just vanish once Trump has slithered back into whatever hole he emerged from.

Some on the right are already trying to re-write what happened yesterday claiming Antifa infiltrated the demonstration and caused all the violence. You can look at the images and be your own judge but that is what some on the right are now claiming. Some apparently have learned absolutely nothing.

Yes, " you can look at the images and be your own judge "

Just like the video of the person who shot the woman. The police did not shoot her ! The video is proof and can be found but not on main stream news.

Oh yes, they claim 'it was Antifa in disguise with diamonds' or some other revisionist BS. They're the type of idiots who say blue is pink, the sun is the moon, war is peace, freedom is slavery - you know, Orwellian crap.

They need to just go away and shut up.

Connor Lamb (D. PA) made some very trenchant observations about those in the GOP who enabled, abetted and defended the actions of the thugs who attempted to hijack the Congress.

Amongst the traitorous thugs was a newly elected GOP rep from West Virginia.

Some personal experiences....

I was forwarded a cell-phone video of Trump, his family members, and hangers on, gleefully watching the US Capital being assaulted. One person was dancing in happiness while she watched the TV, and one son was speaking into the camera and expressing joy over what he saw.

Someone we know who voted for Trump, and is a decades long watcher of right wing "news," commented to us that she does not believe that Trump supporters did what we watched happen on TV, but instead insists that it was a conspiracy committed by a group she called Antifa, for the purpose of making Trump look bad. I am not making this up.

Trump's rage ignites mob assault on the Capitol

fixed

Trump's rage ignites mob assault on the Capitol - And that’s a bad thing? The only Americans who are satisfied with the Republic are the 1%, China, criminals and freeloaders. Hard working folks on both sides are not happy at ALL!

Oh, and FYI JONATHAN LEMIRE, the march to the Capitol after speeches at the WH was a scheduled and advertised part of the event days in advance.

Gee, I wish someone, anyone, would show the world the "very clear evidence of election fraud."

I blame the Internet. The Internet should require a license in order to weed out the the ignorant and the foolish. Boy, that would sure clean things up. Ha!

If there's any good evidence of election fraud, the US Supreme Court would had seen it

Trump had his shot at the Supreme Court like he always wanted - whatever good evidence he has, he would have shown it to the Highest Court of the Land because it would be beyond stupid to hold back when there's nothing higher than the Supreme Court

Yet, whatever was presented to the US Supreme Court (with a 6-3 conservative majority, including 3 Trump appointees), the SCOTUS voted 9-0 sweep that there's no good evidence enough for a case, with no dissension

Anybody who otherwise claims they have seen good evidence is basically saying they have seen something that the US Supreme Court has not seen. Which would be beyond stupid. Because that means either (a) Trump stupidly did not present it in front of the Highest Court of the Land, or (b) that they believe the US Supreme Court (again with a 6-3 conservative majority, including 3 Trump appointees) is stupid for not seeing it as good evidence

Take your pick - either Trump is stupid, or the Supreme Court Justices (including the 3 Trump appointees) are stupid

Or there's simply no good evidence

I saw that too. Laura Branighan's 'Gloria' was playing in the background and them jerks were partying and making stupid noises and mugging for the videocams. Celebrating, partying like it was 1999. Ivanka was standing meekly next to her daddy-husband before he gave his 'Sieg Heil' speech, eyes fixed on the drama unfolding.

Repellant, planned out, prepared, debauched, treasonous and downright SICKENING!!!!

Peaceful protests are not an assault on democracy. We learned that from the BLM/ Antifa protests. Sure, an unarmed protestor was shot and killed by the police. Conservatives have predictably defended the police against charges of excessive force. But if we learned anything last year it’s that protests by unarmed citizens, as angry as they may be, are patriotic.

Yes, Trump is stupid. Yes, their was only minor fraud during the election. Certainly not enough to overturn the results. Why Trump is only now accepting that is beyond me. There were not insignificant changes to election processes in key states before the election that were unapproved by state legislatures. These were implemented by state officials and judges using the pandemic as an rational for not going through the regular legislative process ( don’t let a crisis go to waste rights?). Whether these could have changed the outcome can never be known. Even if the few election related cases that are still in the pipeline show malfeasance by some officials it won’t change the fact that Biden is going to be president.

At least conservatives have a 5-4 Supreme Court advantage (Roberts’ doesn’t count due to his slide towards anti- Constitutionalist views). That can help preserve what’s left of America’s democracy for a little bit longer.

And a police officer was killed by the "unarmed" protestors (ignore the pipe bombs they found...).

I find it interesting how you make the differentiation between peaceful protestors and rioters when it's right-wing Trump supporters, but not when it's black BLM protestors... Hmmm.

All it takes is for people to fervently believe in the LIES given to them by the perpetrators who see them only as useful idiots to be taken advantage of.
