McCain has a busy thread elsewhere visited by divided 'compatriots', but Franklin had some empty threads on JT since she died.

There are obvious not that many lovers of negro music active on this forum :)

I read this piece yesterday and thought it was trying so hard to cover and bring together such a broad swathe of contemporary politics and culture that it failed utterly to get across convincingly whatever points it was trying to make. To some extent, I guess, that's because given the complexity of the issues a relatively short column such as this is entirely inadequate. There are so many unsupported assertions and generalisations in the text that I was going to quote some of them, but if I started I'd be here all day.
