Most U.S. mainstream news media outlets have become biased political campaigners focusing largely on promoting thier preferred political ideology while discrediting the other side. No wonder trust in U.S. media is at an all time low.

This article actually exemplifies the biggest problem in modern media- a need to present superficial political objectivity over reporting objective reality.

The need to present Maddow and Hannity as equivalently partisan showmen is a dead giveaway. People are free to like or dislike Maddow as they wish, but she's got nothing on the outright deceptiveness of Hannity, who in a career spouting deceptive misinformation hit his most recent low when he attacked US investigations of Michael Cohen while failing to disclose that he himself was a client. Maddow has a political opinion, certainly, but she has not been caught explicitly using her news reporting for her own personal benefit.

This pretense of "both sides" that mainstream news clings to in order to put up a pretense of political neutrality is the biggest contributor to the phenomenon of "fake news". When cowardly news organizations pretend both ends of the political spectrum are automatically equal regardless of the behavior of the people involved, it teaches the public to believe there is no objective truth, that all issues simply come down to "sides" with agendas, and whatever benefits your side can be true just because you want it to be.

If we want a well-informed public that can distinguish between fact and opinion and not be duped by Russian misinformation and partisan right-wing propaganda, then we need news organizations to present information validated by the processes used to find it and confirm it, not based on who it comes from or the manner of its presentation.

They are both biased - and that's where the equivalency ends. Maddow backs up her points with facts, numbers, videos etc. Hannity just straight up lies about stuff.

The article makes a good point about the dissipation of descriptive news reporting and rise of commentary in news clothing.

Well, the President of the United States can't tell the difference (calling every comment besides his own 'fake'), so why should other Americans be expected to?

"President Bush never did one interview with the New York Times during his entire presidency."

False.

Fox News "said the New Black Panther Party decided the election for Barack Obama."

False.

C'mon Strangerland, and it goes on and on.....

Media is a paid company at the end of the day feeding propaganda to the masses in all countries, to control the masses=instill fear, anxiety, division. No country is barred..
