Banning cell phones in schools gains popularity in red and blue U.S. states

Compared to when I was young, schools today are like prisons. The doors are locked for 'safeguarding', everything is digitised, and lunch utilises biometric security. Kids are tracked more than Google and your government track you. Banning phone use during class is basic but banning them altogether is another step along the road to institutionalising kids in a regime that you normally have to commit a crime to be placed within. UK schools send kids home now if they have a computer outage/hack, as so much of their operation is computerised. They are incapable of teaching kids without tech. The UK pays GAFA every day to educate their kids. It's become the most Orwellian part of our lives, no doubt training us for when we are all tracked and monitored 24/7.

How about they ban guns first? The numbers of school shootings is still too high, why make it that much more dangerous? If kids use their cell phones in class either make them stand up and read a lecture about the rules or give them extra homework or take it from them and have their parents come to the school to pick it up from them. But safety should be the number 1 thing of importance. And cell phones are a need in 2025

How are they supposed to call their parents to say goodbye next time a shooter traps them in the classroom?

You need to try again. This time make sense.

No, I made perfect sense, you don't need a cellphone in school or how about this, all phones should be kept in lockers and you can access them later, other countries do that, put lockers in the classroom in case there is a shooting.

Another stream of -ve coming to me! Why do all parents not ban phones in bars and restaurants +++ swearing whatever so that natural communication can develop again. maybe they would save a load of bucks and change society from the middle down, family life. Top will always be there skimming the cream (u knows them).
I know bars where the clients now say phones off. Social contacts and honest business contacts abound. I accept that the topic is unitian. I never lived there or worked there. Back to you guys. But What IF?

Thank god. Children are supposed to be being educated at school and not zombieing out on social media. Maybe this is the break that would allow them to contain that menace in their lives.

I like the idea of no phones "bell to bell" through high school.
Socialization will still occur, just in a different manner. Kids need a break from the stresses associated with social media and of being electronically exposed to the entire world all day, every day. Give them time to mature before the complexity of the entire world is thrust on them.

And then what? The gunmen being another student will use the locker handicap to their own advantage

In 2024 there were 83 school shootings with 38 dead and 116 injured. The kids need phone access during emergencies but not during class time.
