It proves that IOC is a clean and independent organization and does not bow to political pressure or Charisma of an individual leader, may it be Obama or Hatoyama.

Obama has nothing to do with, IOC members voting preference.

Rio was the choice of IOC. The South Americans/Rio point that, they never even hosted once, swayed most IOC members votes

There's been too many Olympics in the US. I am glad to see that it went elsewhere.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama ha smore important work to do. Fix the economy. Leave the Olympic bids to Biden.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama s over-inflated ego needed a slapdpwn, that is what he got. More interesting was the smirk on his America-hating wifes face after the decision was announced.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

For instance, some IOC members resented the fact that Obama blew into >Copenhagen for just five hours, jetting back down the runway toward >Washington hours before the result was even announced.

“It can be that some IOC members see it as a lack of respect,” said >former IOC member Kai Holm.

Have past Presidents always attended this event? I can't remember.

He IS the President of the US, he's supposed to hang around until the results are announced!?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ha ha ha, the best man won!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Rio was always going to get the vote, seeing as it's never been in South America before. Obama probably took the right decision to go, though; why not support Chicago? And why not do it in the shortest time available?

This idea that he's doing too much might be partially true, but a lot of things he's doing cannot wait - wars, economy, environment, healthcare. The latter is failing not due to Obama but to widespread bribery in politics in America. I'm talking, of course, about lobbyists from the pharmaceutical industry who openly pay politicians to reject policies. I'm sorry, but the fact that in the supposed leader of the free world you can openly - and legally - bribe politicians is profoundly disturbing. Meanwhile 46 million Americans have no healthcare and are essentially leading third world lives when they get sick.

Obama came into office after physically and mentally the laziest man ever to be president; GW Bush took more holidays than anyone ever did, and he was in bed asleep by 10. That's another reason why Obama looks like he's doing a lot.

And that comment about Obama's "America-hating' wife is pure Republican vitriol; OK, you don't like her, but don't print shameful lies.

Obama has nothing to do with, IOC members voting preference. Rio was the choice of IOC. The South Americans/Rio point that, they never even hosted once, swayed most IOC members votes

Only people who use their brain cells realizes this. The "first time in South America" line pulled on their heart-strings. To the IOC, that's a story they couldn't pass up. Honestly, I don't blame them - I was convinced to (though I was still pulling for Chicago or Tokyo).

But hey, why let the truth bother them?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

jonswan4,

Lies and "no" is all they have. Heaven forbid they try to tell the truth, or come up with an idea.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Its interesting to know how all the African votes went to Tokyo and not to their the closet pal Rio in the first round. If only some of them had ever lived in Ishihara's Tokyo for at least a week!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am not at all surprised Chicago didn't get it, as I believed from the start Rio had it in the bag. I was only surprised that Chicago went out first instead of Tokyo. I thought maybe Chicago would get second. It doesn't 'prove', as some14some suggests, that the IOC is free of corruption/bias in any way, but it does prove that they were not affected by Obama's presence and/or his wife's speech as others may have been.

I don't think it's a particular 'loss' to Obama, though. Just a bit of a loss to those who thought Chicago would get it simply by Obama showing up.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Chicago is a blow to Obama

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Who are these people to deny President Obama his glory? Hee hee!

Congrats to Rio!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You guys are THAT desperate to take a poke at Obama that you'll blame him for vying for the Olympics, then blame him for not getting them.

Quite sad, really.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Appears that after the IOC has heard Obama on his global apology tour speaking so badly of America, they asked themselves, "Why would we even consider sending the Olympics to the U.S.?"

When the Obama's rolled into town, the IOC was wise enough to send them packing folowing the first round.

Moderator: Please note that Obama is spelled with a capital O, and not with a zero.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama must have expected payback for traveling around the globe on the American's dime to trash talk U.S. Instead, the world laughed at him.

Heckuvajob, Barack.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Props to you, smithinjapan. You stand by Obama, like a true American. The First Lady could not have comforted Barack more tenderly than you do with your admonition of the haters.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow!! It was a blow-out for Chicago elimated in the 1st round. To tell you the truth, I was stunned during the preliminary announcement made by Rogges. More I think about it, the White House took a gamble and lost big-time. I would think that President Obama must have thought it was wrapped up for Chicago by going to Copehhagen. Why risk an embarassing defeat as this one if he didn't? Congrats to Rio. A better and bitter lesson learned for him from an Olympic defeat than one from Iran, Iraq and Afghasnistan.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

chicago, or the states for tha matter has hosted far more than its share of olympics. they dont deserve it and everyone knows it. who cares if obama comes to pitch his hometown. was a waste of time for any leader of a notion to be at those final presentations. do you know how much it costs to do all of that? its just absurd to me and so is the whole pomp and pageant of the olympics

0 ( +0 / -0 )

To a point I am glad Rio won. Recently there was a brutal murder in Chicago. It is beyond me why a city would want to show the world a place where there is a high crime rate. I mean personally I think that is kind of embarrassing. Congrats to Brazil.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Recently there was a brutal murder in Chicago"

Really? Of course there are no brutal murders in Rio, lol.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Barack Obama: All podium, no policy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

RomeoRamenII Dude your hate needs to take a time out. Go read a magazine in the toilet if that helps but you need to find a new outlet for your frustration.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama- no you can't!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Goddam Obama, his idiotic rhetotric and his dissing of our gtreat nation over the last few months lost Chicago the Olympics.

Even thing he says is bad for the US. Talk about a lame duck President!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

thethudelh: If you want to see brutal murders, you need simply check domestic news in any country, not just those hoping to host the Olympics. Japan has a brutal murder (what murder ISN'T brutal, really?) every day these days. Rio, I'm sure, has some, and we can't forget that Spain is mired in terrorism and has an explosion every couple of months that kills a number of people.

RomeoRamen/bgaudry: not commenting really on the content of yours posts, since it's all recycled from your 40 or so over the past couple of days, again I say it's quite sad you guys would rather see your country fail to dishonour the president than see another country win. Rio deserves the games more than others for a number of reasons -- it has nothing to do with the leaders of sad nations.

Romeo in particular, you have posted I think 100 times or so in the past week on Olympics-related threads with nothing but emnity towards your president, and aside from being incredibly immature and a transparent look at how shallow your morals can be, it's getting quite tiresome. If there ever really was a syndrome regarding your ex-president, you most certainly have an acute disease in terms of obsessing on the current. Spit out some of the bile and move on with your life, my friend.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

smithinjapan- I wanted Rio to win, as they and the people of Latin America deserve it.

Also, I am not an American. Bush or Obama- all the same for me and the people who cheer for any politician are idiots. I for one am glad Hatoyama and Obama's visits had seemingly no influence on the outcome.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Democrats have to be displeased with the lack of change from Obama at this point, regardless of whether they are willing to admit it or not.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

While I do think it is worth noting that both President and Mrs. Obama spoke at the IOC meeting (though Mrs. Zapatera, Mrs. Hatoyama, and Mrs. de Silva did not) when Chicago presented their bid, I don't blame the "loss" on the President or First Lady. I also do not think it is a "loss" for President Obama, but am glad that Chicago didn't get the Games primarily because of the fact that it would have been another undeserved, unearned feather in Obama's cap.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's very clear that the IOC members were nonplussed by the U.S. using Obama star-power or Japan using their New Government Hatoyama star-power. In fact they came in 4th and 3rd place!

It's clear the IOC is about fairness, and not some political body or meeting, trying to promote good sportsmanship, since South America has never hosted the games and it's now their turn.

Chicago had the cards stacked against it in the first place and all Obama and his wife did was show up, like he was 'asked' to and make a speech, so I don't understand why it's a blow specifically to Obama? On the same logic wouldn't it be a blow to Hatoyama, too? It was a fair vote to a continent that has never hosted the games, why all the blows?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't think that Obama did anything wrong, it was just that Rio is the most beautiful city in the world and the Brazilians are the most joyful people...no city would stand a chance against Rio. Also, after the demonstrations in China last time, Brazil is a very peaceful country with no racism and no other country has anything bad to say about Brazil.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

no racism- I find that very hard to believe, but I agree with your main arguments.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

bgaudry: "Also, I am not an American. Bush or Obama- all the same for me and the people who cheer for any politician are idiots. I for one am glad Hatoyama and Obama's visits had seemingly no influence on the outcome."

Sorry to group you in there with the sorry Americans who can do nothing but blame Obama for EVERYTHING under the sun, but rather than singling you out in terms of nationality I was pointing out that you were simply making jabs specifically to Obama (on at least two threads you wrote the 'no you can't!' comment, among other things). In fact, I didn't really see too many people 'cheering' FOR Obama, just a sorry few trying to ridicule him.

I'm glad you were rooting for Rio, but more than that I saw you knocking Obama (not even Chicago or the supports themselves).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Foxie: "I don't think that Obama did anything wrong, it was just that Rio is the most beautiful city in the world and the Brazilians are the most joyful people...no city would stand a chance against Rio. Also, after the demonstrations in China last time, Brazil is a very peaceful country with no racism and no other country has anything bad to say about Brazil."

I would say there are some pretty subjective opinions in there. Who knows, maybe Brazil is indeed the most beautiful city in the world, but that's up to the person to decide. As well, I agree with bgaudry in regards to the 'no racism' thing being hard to believe.

Anyway, even though I've never been there I do think you're right about Rio having a joyous atmosphere (via its people), and I hope that's the case for the games.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So the 106 delegates have had 4 years to make up their minds/be bribed and because Obama failed to changed enough minds in his 45 minutes he's a failure? I thinketh not.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No advanced city REALLY wants the Olympics anymore...only places that have something to prove. Almost all sports already have their respective international competitions...the Olympics have become too overblown and self-important. Most people are turned off.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

One of Brazil's biggest pride is that they have no racism. Ask any Brazilians about it and they will proudly tell you this.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Who knows, maybe Brazil is indeed the most beautiful city in the world, but that's up to the person to decide"

Hey smithinjapan - Brazil is a country. Like most Americans, you need to study more geography.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sorry I stuck this in another thread by mistake. This is an interesting take on Obama`s decision to go to Copenhagen. Obama’s Olympic Failure Has Meaning for Copenhagen and Climate Change http://redgreenandblue.org/2009/10/02/whos-counting-obamas-olympic-failure-has-meaning-for-copenhagen-and-climate-change/

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Chicago and America did not deserve the Olympis - there have been far to many American Olympics in the past years. It was indeed a kind of slap in the face for Obama. Maybe he deserved to have his inflated ego punctured. As for his dear America-hating wife, the smirk on her face when the announcement was made said it all!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That is why I do not like the idea that Head of Government go to Copenhagen to lobby IOC .It is too political ,too much pressure on IOC and too strong distraction for IOC. Tony Blair did it first , but he was lucky. The wind has changed now.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It might have been wiser to know more about the vote count before he boarded Air Force One. In hindsight, there was plenty of reason to doubt Chicago’s chances.

can't you just see the headlines after the Dumbs get blown out off office?

'in hindsight there were plenty of reasons to doubt obama.'

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The London Olympics will be the 18th in Europe. The US has had the Olympics only 4 times. So I expected the US to get them this time.

I agree with tclh, Presidents and Prime Ministers shouldn't get involved in the Olympic lobbying process. Sport shouldn't be related to politics in the same way that religion shouldn't be. And PMs etc have much more important things to be doing (like brush-clearing).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

POTUS, seemed Paris really wanted the 2012 games which London eventually won. Are both of these advanced cities, or do they both have soemthign to prove?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No advanced city REALLY wants the Olympics anymore

so tokyo didn't REALLY want the olympics? it was just faking? or is it not an advanced city? explain please.

of course chicago, madrid and rio are not advanced cities. that is clearly obvious.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The US has had the Olympics only 4 times

4 times each, summer and winter...

1904 St. Louis 1932 Los Angeles 1984 Los Angeles 1996 Atlanta for the summer games, as for the winter games,

1932 Lake Placid 1960 Squaw Valley 1980 Lake Placid 2002 Salt Lake City

Obama’s fabled charm and powers of persuasion

Obama's propaganda department really went into overdrive on this piece.

Look at what he's done with Obamacare: a super majority in congress and it's bogged down.

Look at what he's done in closing down Gitmo....well...maybe we shouldn't look there.

Look at the millions of jobs his stimulus package created...dang it...unemployment's still going up.

Look at his recent trip to personally seal the deal for Chicago to get the Olympics....hmmmm....

Since Obama has never really been faced with any real opposition, is his loss of an adoring public actually zapping his mojo?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Glad to see olympics go to the truly no racism Brazil.

If there is a nation which is a cultural mix of race ,without racism,it is Brazil.

2016,is good year for globalism without racism targets.

The Brazilians still need to do more to solve the economic divides woes, between poor and rich brazilians ,in no racism Brazil 2016.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The Brazilians still need to do more to solve the economic divides woes, between poor and rich brazilians

gee you think so?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm sad that America/Chicago did not get the Games, but glad that they aer going to a place that has never had them.

Even though I didn't vote for Obama, I am not happy to see him fail. Like it or not he represents all America, and if he is going to go on the world stage, I would suggest he learn how to play the game. First the world hates American because of Bush, and the adoring throng in Berlin for the rock star candidate in the election campaign was going to change things. Now that he is in office, once again there are complaints that a US President is not "doing things the right way."

My advice to Obama, if he wants a secong term, get rid of some of the loons on his staff, shift towards the center like Clinton did, and use his popularity sparingly. Maybe he can pull it off, but right now, I think he will not make the cut in 2012.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If there is a nation which is a cultural mix of race ,without racism,it is Brazil.

You obviously not have heard about how the darker skinned "Afro-Brazilians" like Pele to name an example have faced discrimination in their own country.

But still, it is good to see that the games are going to a place where they haven't. I predict the London games to be a "bust" and the IOC will need a new "schtick" like they had with Beijing to get them back to being somewhat popular in the news.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah, there is a lot of racism in Brazil and everywhere... even among darker and lighter shades of the same race.. Heck, in American 96% of blacks that are murdered, are done so by other blacks...

aw

inkjet- Go to youtube, type out in search " Poverty in Brazil", " War in Rio",watch all those you tube videos there.

I just watched one ,just now, Boy, the people were angry about their poverty.

These people may start somekind of protests in 2016 olympics,,if Brazil Govt does not act.

It is not surprising that due to poverty in Brazil, many take the life of crime/drug peddling from Brazilian slums.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Raj - There's poverty in Tokyo too. Not on the scale of poverty in Rio, but still...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I feel bad for Obama. But then this is the Olympics not the 2008 US election.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"this is the Olympics not the 2008 US election"

Exactly, exactly!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I would have kept Obama on the bench as a cheerleader -that's what he is best at. When you give Obama the ball -he will usually drop it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama failed as he has done so far at anything since Jan. 20th. Maybe the IOC should have chosen our president in the last election. Seems they don't fall for I,I,I,I; me,me,me,me speeches.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

First the world hates American because of Bush

there you go. blame bush for the olympic failure too. ain't it sweet?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

inkjet- Go to youtube, type out in search " Poverty in Brazil"

i was being sarcastic.

i don't like hearing people call the US a racist country. are there race issue in the US? of course. but how many other countries have elected minority leaders? what will it take to get the accusation of a racist nation off the tongues (finger tips) of all this critics?

brazil may be a great country. and i'm sure rio is a great city. i have family who have lived down there for decades. i know a little bit about brazil. the good, the bad and the ugly.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

As far as poverty goes, I imagine Brazil's is probably no worse than in China. After all, Beijing did a pretty good job of whitewashing and putting up false facades for the games, and yet if you were to go to areas off the "Olympic trails" you could probably see the poverty and living conditions that are in China.

Seems they don't fall for I,I,I,I; me,me,me,me speeches.

Not that I have a case of BDS, but I imagine that Obama's speech to the IOC will probably compare to Bush's "Mission Completed" banner. From what sources I have been able to piece, it seems that Obama went there along with the others making the argument that this would be a great way to cap off his "second term" and his legacy as the President by bringing the Olympics to Chicago.

I think this will probably be a wake up to Obama. He went there mking statements that in the past few years, many people have not felt welcomed to come to America, but now that there is a "change" in the White House they should be more welcomed. I guess he learned the hard facts of life, it seems that no matter who is the US President, the world still has their attitudes towards you and the US. At least "W" really didn't care so much as what the others in the world thought about him, and I think if Obama started to not so much worry about being liked but just doing the job he may come out better.

Can anyone tell me, if the games are held in August, which is a winter month in Rio, will many of the outdoor events get moved indoors or does Rio have a year round warm climate?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

i not so sure this was a 'we don't like america vote.'

it makes sense to give south america a turn. obama should have seen that possibility coming. brazil is a emerging as a major player. why not have the olympics there? it makes perfect sense.

obama just looks a bit bush league. that's all. it wouldn't be a big deal if he wasn't already looking bush league in oh so many ways.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't mind Rio or any country hosts Olympics in 2016. I've heard something about high crime rate in Rio. I'm not sure about it. Is there no problem about security or safety there if I go see? I don't hope any tragedy like it happened long time ago.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Gee... I looking for the article totled, "Japan's - Hatoyama's Olympic Bid Fails..."

Gee... It's amazing, all you read for the last two weeks was how Hatoyama was making a big push to get Japan to host the Olympics...

Now... You don't see one word about Japan, but Obama makes the front page... ha ha ha....

Thanks JT! ha ha ha...!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

America can't standing loosing, I'm surprised they didn't invade the country.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It was the fight and bad blood between the IOC and USOC that made the Chicago bid DOA. North Americans still believe they can and should win on the merits of their argument and don't play political games on the same level of sophistication of the people on the IOC. That's not to say that the USOC isn't arrogant but Obama had a lose-lose situation. Lose if you go, lose if you don't and the Olympics will NOT make a bit of difference.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No it's not. I totally disagree with this story. Chicago didn't have a snowball's chance of winning anything.

I wish Obama didn't go / didn't have to go. Because it was a waste of fuel to go. He should have sent Oprah Winfrey or some other star. Send Brad Pitt.

Brazil won 5 months ago.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

LOLOLOLOL and to think Chicago supported by Obama would be eliminated before Tokyo that's supported by that nationalist nutjob Blinky Shintaro

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Winger "humor" :

“Obama took the gold in the Men’s Political-Capital Toss.”

Real funny.I bet glenn beck's writers are gonna love that one.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The USA ws the first country to be given the old heave ho and I for one, feel it was because Obama has wore out his welcome. (Self Praise Stinks!)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In the U.S., various news agencies are calling Europe "racist" for not bowing to Obama's demands. Also that it was George Bush's fault.

The true fact is that in the U.S., we have a naive President who thinks more of himself that the rest of the world does. The year 2012 can't come soon enough. I was rooting for Tokyo, as another excuse to visit.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Surprising that for a President that demands radical environmentalism, he doesn't mind that he and his wife are flying "two separate large planes" to the venue. Not to mention the 600 other folks that travel with them (along with military transports for security, limos, etc.). The IOC should have banned him for his carbon footprint alone.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

he should have taken the prius.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Judging from Obama's speech to the IOC, it's not hard to see why Chicago was given the boot after the first round. Apparently, words do matter:

I know you face a difficult choice among several great cities and nations with impressive bids of their own. So I’ve come here today to urge you to choose Chicago for the same reason I chose Chicago nearly 25 years ago — the reason I fell in love with the city I still call home. And it’s not just because it’s where I met the woman you just heard from — although after getting to know her this week, I know you’ll all agree that she’s a pretty big selling point for the city.

Obama actually believed that he and his wife was a valid reason for the IOC to choose Chicago.

Read the rest of Obama's "It's All About Me" self-lovefest here:

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"OK, so it was noy health care, climate change or war. Still, President Barack Obama’s high-profile failure to win the Olympics for Chicago could feed negative narratives already nipping at his heels—that he’s a better talker than deal closer, more celebrity than statesman."

What a load of rubbish. The Olympics go to the City and Country, not some lame arse politician who will probably be out of office anyway.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Oprah was there. Gov. Ishihara told it like it is - there are politics and behind the scenes stuff. Oh well, another great reason to visit Rio...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Man,it seems like yesterday:

“In 2016, I’ll be wrapping up my second term as president,” he told a rally in Chicago in June 2008. “So I can’t think of a better way than to be marching into Washington Park … as president of the United States and announcing to the world: Let the Games begin!”…

You cant blame the New York Times for scrubbing articles like that from their site.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tigertty - Gov. Ishihara is not totally correct: he is just beign a sore loser racist that he always has been, blaming others for his own failures. Pathetic....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obviously the IOC is made up of a bunch of racists, right MrSmith?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's not the Special Olympics. Not everyone wins. Live with it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Someone get Fox News to write this silly little piece of fluff?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The true fact is that in the U.S., we have a naive President who thinks more of himself that the rest of the world does.

@mtimjones In addition, the US is a country that thinks more of itself than the world does. Not everyone is awestruck by our great country.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama's failed campaign in Denmark shows once again his lack of experience in the real business world. A person nurtured in an affirmative-action environment where things are handed to you because of your ethnic status would not know that to get business done you have to offer a product or service that is focused on the benefits to the customer. But in Obama's world of Chicago pay-to-play politics, business gets done by clearing the field your competitors. Selling anything is never a requirement.

Which explains a lot as to the embarrassing first round knockout. When you read his prepared speech, Obama's was all about selling the Obama brand, not U-S-A.

To his credit, Obama had an uphill fight on his hands before arriving in Denmark. How could he, after travelling around the globe calling America a cancer on the world, possibly sell our country to the IOC with a straight face?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama's failed campaign in Denmark shows once again his lack of experience in the real business world.

And don't forget the other two failed bids. What does Tokyo know about business. And who is Madrid? It is a mystery how Rio won since everyone knows Brazil is a socialist country and a bunch of know-nothings about business.

Oh yeah RomeoRamenII the Chicago bid failed because of Obama since we all know the other three cities are losers to begin with.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but not everything is about Obama. There are other people in the world who are just as talented. I know you are disappointed and need to find someone to blame, but why not congratulate Rio on their successful bid and accept it. Growing up is hard to do, but you can do it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What does Tokyo know about business. And who is Madrid?

Was Tokyo or Madrid mentioned in this article?

Checking, checking .... nope.

not everything is about Obama

Heh, don't tell that to the Obama's.

Instead of selling the IOC on the positives of holding the games in America (yes, yes, I realize it would take an out-of-body experience for either Obama to say something nice about the U.S.), they were the focus of their sales pitches to the IOC. Track down and read or watch their Copenhagen speeches and you'll realize that the theme of both their presentations was: Hold the Olympics in Chicago because we are from there.

The IOC got a whiff of the arrogant stench that surrounds the Obama's and voted accordingly.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Once again the angry whiners of the rightwing republican party win (in their minds) and America loses. If they love Brazil so much they should just move there and help the country build the stadiums and other venues that Chicago already has in place. But no, just as with the war they are chickenhawks now with the Olympics they will be chicken medalists.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

ahhh RomeoRamenII most people who spoke talked about themselves and their personal stake in the Olympics coming to their city. This is not all about Obama. He is not god and he cannot succeed at everything, so relax, get a grip. As for the "arrogant stench" at the IOC meeting ... how old are you? That stench is part of everything the IOC touches, most adults know that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@dracpoo2

No, that was the Bush Administration....

The U.S. gives out more economic aid than almost all other nations, combined, not even including donations from individual charities...

If you haven't already noticed 99.9% of the losers that post to this site, (including yourself) are anti-american... They don't know how or why... but they have been indoctrinated to hate American, because they have nothing better to do.... probably greater 50% of Japanese population has never had any contact with actual americans, yet, they have been taught to by their elders to hate ALL foreigners...

If you've lived in Japan for any period of time and ventured outside your home, you would know this to be the case...

If you want to talk about how terrible and illegal of a war the Iraq invasion was, YES you are correct, That was George dubya... But America isn't George Dubya...

Come on, doesn't everyone want to run a marathon in mosquito infested slums while it's insanely hot and humid outside? I would not want to be a track athlete in Rio! Of course Chicago is not much better in the summer. The games have never been to South America, and I'm quite certain that's most of the reason that Rio got picked, though it seems a very illogical choice to me. The IOC are obviously as corrupt as the UN.

Chicago was selected as a finalist for the 2016 games summer of 2008, when bush was still president. I cant believe Obama's personal story didn't move the judges of teh IOC.

Incredible, isn't it?

It doesn't matter what Obama does, the rules have never changed. An African American, has to be an honor graduate from Harvard to even be considered for the same job as caucasian with a C average. This is the double standard that society has always placed on people of color. Obama could solve health care, end both wars, fix the world economic crisis and still some would complain he didn't do enough. Meanwhile a caucasian could start 2 wars, completely rob the treasury making himself and his cronies richer than they already were, cost the nation thousands of young lives, cause a world economic crisis that is still affecting millions of people worldwide, and be dumber than donkey shiznit and still be considered adorable by some. Chicago losing is just one more stone to throw at Obama's glass house. There are just people who just want to see him fail so they can say "see we shouldn't have hired the black guy". Chicago losing is not Obama's fault but there are those who will try their best to make it about him.

I think Hehehohohaha said it best:

I'm shocked, I tells ya. ;-) Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin will pay for this snub of the Obama's by the IOC.

Does this mean the sky is falling? Has our god failed US?

In my opinion, obama should not have come. michelle or the vice would have been enough. brazil had a pretty good chance of hosting the games anyway. obama should give his eloquence a rest and concentrate on the national issues at hand, foreign policy second.
