Winter Olympic boycott chatter shouldn't go any further

Boycott the Beijing Olympics or hold them somewhere else

I was interrogated in China and I was not protesting the Olympics, Government or anything else. It had to do with what they found in my backpack when they clandestinely went through my items.

I still say boycott it.

Any more information? What did they find? Maybe the interrogation was appropriate. Clandestine? In what type of circumstances? I can't believe any of this without some details.

The inconvenience and disappointment of a handful of athletes is as nothing compared to the suffering, pain and death of the untold thousands being persecuted in China. The Olympics are just a sports event, they are utterly inconsequential alongside what is going on in China and any sportsman or sports administrator who puts their own petty desires ahead of opposing genocide is so utterly morally corrupt as to be unworthy os respect or representing their country.

I am not a fan of dictatorships, but the Olympics are greater than any one nation, and I agree with the idea that they should not be boycotted.

I'm afraid that the global boycott campaign will only be gaining momentum and will never fade away despite rollback efforts or propaganda by Beijing.

Let's find and arrange an alternative venue to host the Winter Games which wouldn't have to take place in Beijing. That's how the chance & honour for top athletes can be saved. Or even China could save face if it volunteers to quit.

There in China, many ordinary foreigners still go missing all of a sudden (many often end up being in custody for interrogations, without warrant or presence of a lawyer). How could Olympic fans possibly spend some time there safely?
