Without the bidding, how would the IOC members keep their 3rd and 4th homes?

If you've lived in a city hosting the Olympics, you see how much of a hassle it is and what I'd call opportunistic theft there is by hotels hours away from any venues requiring reservations with no refunds at least a year in advance. Apartments required full year leases without allowing cancellation too (except for death or military). Being stuck in a lease in a city where you can't change jobs (non-compete employment clauses) is terrible.

The only way I'd travel to see Olympics, is if I have friends near the venue for my favorite sport.

It won't happen because too many sports need the exposure, but they should cut back the number of events, especially ones that need dedicated facilities like canoeing. There is too much bloat.

The Olympics should go the auto racing route: remove the country affiliation and set up corporate teams. 1) This will remove the whole nasty jingoistic aspect of the Games, and 2) corporations, not taxpayers, can foot the bill for whatever extravagance the market will bear.

The 70’s movie. Not the corporate sanitized remake.

It's coming to an end, especially the Winter Olympics. If it lasts at all, Climate Change will force the IOC to pay 100% and no longer be a corporate welfare project. A single Olympics during October combining whatever indoor sports are left from both winter and summer.

Just have it in Greece every four years and be done with it. The corrupt IOC can pay the entire cost of the games, instead of keeping all the cash for themselves as they do at the moment. If they don't do that the only future candidate cities will be those in despotic countries where the dictators don't care what the people think.

I was swimming in the Tokyo Tatsumi pool recently. It's a world-class pool, but instead of using it for the olympics they are wasting $250 million on building another pool elsewhere. Absolute lunacy.

Just have it in the same place, should be in Greece. Oh and ditch the niche sports, baseball wsn't in the London Olympics and most people didn't notice. The inclusion of rock climbing and other hobbies as Olympic sports needs to stop.

Keep it in Greece, home of the Olympics. IOC foots the bill.

Another Idea, if we are going for authenticity, and reduced events, limit it just to the original classical Olympic events. Anyone for a race in full Hoplite bronze armour?

Can we do the wrestling and boxing naked and covered in olive oil too?

Until they make darts an Olympic sport I'm not interested.
