If you stand to lose nothing by making bad decisions for a companies future then you won’t care as long as you get paid. If you have ownership of said company and stand to lose millions by making poor choices you will have more pause for thought!

Academic research suggests that board members at large companies – who typically receive generous compensation packages – may be limited in their ability to perform these tasks effectively

So they receive massive compensation for doing little to nothing.

Sounds like parasitic capitalism.

If Musk eliminates them he will be partly living up to the ideals of the author he professes to admire; Iain Banks.

Liberals should relax, Musk just wants the platform to have an equal playing field from all sides the right and left and that's great and the people can decide what they agree and disagree with, they can down or upvote their opinions and no one particularly conservatives have to worry about being blocked, canceled or kicked off the platform.

That's a great thing that should be celebrated by everyone.

That's what they are worried about.

Liberals should relax,

Liberals and conservatives should get past the two party rope a dope

Then maybe Twitter could morph into something leading to constructive dialogue and expression.

And never insult Banks or his view by calling him a liberal.

If Twitter goes, then who cares. There will be another platform to take over. But not TrumpBook since it doesn't even work anyway - remember, Trump can't even build a wall. If Musk runs Twitter into the ground it will be like just one more dead cockroach with many more surviving and taking over. It's Musk's nickel. Who takes social media that seriously anyway.

Found an alternative and have never left. Couldn’t be happier.

That's a good thing.

One of the reasons for the lack of free speech is the presence of board members who are also on the board of the companies being promoted/defended by twitter (or FB.....).

As long as what you're agreeing or disagreeing with is 280 character or less. Equal perhaps, but a very small playing field. (The above article is over 6,000 characters.) I still wonder what Musk is hoping to achieve.

Perhaps he'll replace the directors with ships' Minds. Iain Banks once described those Minds as "wishy-washy liberals with fabulous weaponry".

There are no real alternatives to Twitter

That depends on who you are asking, there are other alternatives out there, but it depends on what your personal needs are.

and many people and companies are simply unable to leave.

For people in that situation, it is understandable.

Musk has mentioned about better algo to weed out bots.

Musk has also expressed support for a UBI partly funded by people getting paid for the use of their data.

Since Consider Phlebas, one of Banks themes has been the tension between the Minds' idealism but also interventions using less than moral methods.

Freedom of speech is guaranteed by the powers that be..........as long as what you say follows their narrative and agenda. Twitter and Youtube are prime examples.

That sounds a bit like people getting by from selling their blood and body parts. (Assuming by UBI you meant Universal Basic Income.)

Right on. But in this capitalist system aren't we selling bits and pieces of ourselves everyday to make a living?

In this case it could be data; but it is also with our time, youth, physical stamina or creativity.
