There are only about 6,000 apps in all, though, so the selection is much slimmer than iPhone’s or Android’s. You won’t find an app for eBay or the “Words With Friends” game here.

Question....where can all those iPhone apps be found. I have a JP account and an American account. I just do not see all the apps everyone talks about.

iTunes. Just run a search for what you are looking for. (or google the app name with "itunes" and you will see a link to it that will automatically open iTunes for you)

I've had the iPhone for the past 2 years. I recently switched to an AU HTC EVO Wimax (Android). In the two weeks I've had it I've already found hundreds of more useful apps than I've ever found on the crApple, whether by searching or via iTunes. Most a also free (compared to iTunes, which cost for almost anything with even marginal purpose or functionality). With the android, no jailbreak necessary, whereas with the iPhone, you kinda need to if you want any apps with real substance (and I'm not talking Angry Birds here, which btw is free on Android). In a nutshell, my EVO EATS APPLES. Leave the walled garden that is Apple. Get an Android.

Btw, typed this on my iPad, which will explain any spell correct mistakes. Running it on wifi... From my EVO which also doubles as a mobile hotspot.

Nice try HTC shill! iPhone forever!!!

(kidding, Android user. Great phone, loads of useful apps)

The only thing we lack is the sheer number of games on iOS, but that's getting better every week.

What the iPhone needs is a good strong battery. How are Androids on batteries?

It's only free because it is ad-supported on android...

Yeah, my iPhone 4 dies almost daily... the battery is shocking if you have the cheek to actually use the damned thing!

I don't think any smartphone has a really good battery, more of a case of processor and screen technology outstripping energy storage technology.

If you're worried, eneloop sells a pretty nifty rechargeable USB charger that is good for a whole weekend of recharges for only about 5,000 Yen. Get one of those and use it as much as you like.

All smart phones suck battery like drinking a shot of tequilla.. the best thing you can do is carry around the charger, spare battery or purchase an extedned batter for your phone. I wish that phone makers would make a unit that will last 2 days at least with heavy useage. But Noooo! they try to appeal the customer by the size of the phone........ Will it ever change??

They're all too small for anything but phone calls.

On the plus side, my EVO came with two batteries, as opposed to my old iPhone, where changing batteries was simply not an option.

What the iPhone needs is Android... Amongst a plethora of other things. Legacy support anyone? As soon as iOS4 came out, my old iPhone 3G practically bricked, and this was midway through my contract with Softbank (which also is also a terrible carrier btw. Minato Mirai and no reception?! WTF?!) Who do you think so many people feel the need to jailbreak? (which voids warranty, and can also brick that 40,000 yen piece of iCrap.)

The adage "size matter" sometimes doesn't seem to apply to smart phones because some sales data indicate a high demand for phones with screens of all size. The size of the handset's screen often takes a back seat to other factors such as marketing, software and carrier support. With a flagship product, you might see at least a 4 inch screen but that probably has little to do with what the consumer wants. Rather manufacturers could be just expanding dimensions to work around software constraints. They're just trying to get more stuff on the screen. I don't think people are necessarily buying smartphones based on screen sizes. It's probably more about what new product is coming out than a direct consumer need. If the latest devices are the larger screens, then that's what people will most likely buy. It's the popularity of the larger screens or the popularity of the device? I think it's the latter. Although traditional thinking would suggest a one-size fit mentality which I believe would be a bad strategy for a manufacturers of any kind. Hence there will always be limits on either end of the screen-size spectrum.
