It seems to me like everyone is hell bent to get Neville Chamberlain all wrong. The ethnic Germans who were the majority (like 90 percent!) in the Sudetenland at the time NEVER wanted to be Czechoslovakians. They became so because of stupid/evil/greedy politicians dividing up Austrio-Hungary after WWI with zero regard for the populace. Those people wanted to be part of Germany and Chamberlain was completely in the right to allow them to become part of Germany. You will note that no ethnic Germans live there today because they were forcibly expelled, their homes stolen by Czechs after WWII.

If Chamberlain had refused Hitler, the European theater of WWII would have opened in 1938 rather than 1939. And as the complete disaster starting in 1939 showed, culminating with the British bailing off the mainland from Dunkirk in 1940, the British and French were not remotely prepared for war even with the extra year.

If not for Neville Chamberlain the war would have started sooner and likely been even more disasterous. Chamberlain earned his nomination. He even deserved to win. He gave peace a chance and actually had it for a time. If he had done the opposite of what he did, Britain would have been seen as the aggressor, maybe right in the German language history books Britons themselves would be using today!

Alfred Nobel hoped that war was becoming so horrible that no one would seriously consider it

Yeah. It was all fun and games until gunpowder came along! "Becoming" horrible? What in the world.....?

MJ should have been nominated and atleast have been taken seriously...(and there were heaps of trashy stories back then about MJ...for the record) he was the most influential entertainer in the world at the time and spent heaps of his time publicly speaking up for injustice against children and put 500 million dollars of his own money into it...who else did that..no one...that's who...seems a bit disrespectful to say that his nomination wasn't taken serious..

Why shouldn't Trump get the peace prize now that he's solved the North Korea situation with his love letters, getting them to denuclearize?

ADD Donald trump to the mix.

Don't forger that Congress wanted to nominate Joshua Wong for the Nobel Peace prize.

Check in a search of the NYT or Washington Post.

Mussolini, Hitler, Stalin, and now Trump. Someone has a sense of humor.

Alfred Nobel hoped that war was becoming so horrible that no one would seriously consider it as a means to an end. Maybe, with the invention of nuclear weapons, we will finally see the end of wide-spread warfare, although that is not in alignment with how Trump thinks.

The Nobel Prize was fated from the start.

Nobel held 355 different patents, dynamite being the most famous.

Known for inventing dynamite, Nobel also owned Bofors, which he had redirected from its previous role as primarily an iron and steel producer to a major manufacturer of cannon and other armaments.

Kissinger, Arafat, Gore, Obama. The prize is a joke and any "man of peace" would reject it out of hand.
