Yes, CE is basically AD with a yellow sticky note. But, come on, we need a common system and this one serves its purpose. Otherwise it would be too confusing if everyone just used their own calendar exclusively. Just imagine the world using dozens of different measurement systems because someone doesn't like the fact that the French came up with it first.

I get confused having Showa, Heisei and Reiwa chucked at me randomly. Regardless of its roots, AD/BC seems to be pretty universally accepted these days; no need to fix something that ain’t broke, or change names arbitrarily, or use sticky notes.

The western system may have old religious connections but at least it is logical..... add one to last year.
Unlike the Japanese system based on the death or retirement of Emperors..
