It's a gamble either way. But taking a wait and see approach with regards to these new vaccines, especially with infants and children, is not irrational given (1) the low incidence of severe disease in children infected with COVID-19 and (2) a 2017 study (Postmarket Safety Events Among Novel Therapeutics Approved by the US Food and Drug Administration Between 2001 and 20100) found that:

*"Among 222 novel therapeutics approved by the FDA from 2001 through 2010, 71 (32.0%) were affected by a postmarket safety event. Postmarket safety events were more frequent among biologics, therapeutics indicated for the treatment of psychiatric disease, those receiving accelerated approval, and those with near–regulatory deadline approval."*

To date" means that it's still possible that safety signals will be found in the future.

Same for COVID infection, except that the infection is much more likely to result in increased risk for pathology.

What are mothers who subjected their kids to the shots supposed to do once "safety signals" appear in the future?

What are mothers that did not vaccinate going to do when COVID ends up related to serious health problems in the future? specially when they were told this was a realistic possibility and not with vaccines?

The vaccines can't be removed, and that's why 73% of mothers are hesitant.

The risk from the infection can't be removed either, and that is why pediatricians are so interested in children to be vaccinated.

wait and see approach with regards to these new vaccines, especially with infants and children, is not irrational

How many of those events were on the same level as the already known risks from COVID for children? Even taking for granted that no other risk will ever be associated with the infection (realistically impossible) it is still irrational to believe something may be identified later that has not been in literally billions of people vaccinated that would make it the worse option when compared with what is already known from COVID.

"To date there have been no safety signals"

To date they have not seen any safety signals because they are not looking for them.

To date they have not seen any safety signals because they are not looking for them.

And what do you think systems like VAERS are? the misuse of the system by antivaxxer groups is facilitated because of it including all and everything tha could be related to vaccines. There is very little that could be realistically done to look for signals of problems that is not already been done.

And what do you think systems like VAERS are?

VAERS shows that the safety signals are off the charts, clear as day if someone is willing to analyze the data; unfortunately those whose job it is to do so just summarily dismiss all the reported adverse effects.

VAERS shows that the safety signals are off the charts

No it does not, that is just disinformation being spread by anitvaxxer groups. All the professionals that actually work analyzing data for a living say the same, the incidence on vaccinated people are in the same levels as unvaccinated people, which mean it is just the natural occurence of problems without relationship with the vaccine. Nobody is dismissing anything except the antivaxxers, that depend on hiding the occurence of problems in unvaccinated people for their disinformation.
