Maybe the problem is taking too much into account the opinion of athletes, they are not specially prepared to make decisions scientifically or to consider evidence in a valid way, but people tend to think of them as examples to follow in everything they do in their lives.

The article says they are as gullible as the rest of the population, but judging from the vast amount of superstitions and pseudoscience many adopt to improve (acupuncture, homeopathy, reiki, etc. etc.) you could not be criticized thinking they may be more gullible than the average person.

Pro athletes are followed very closely by doctors and trainers, who see the effects on the athletes that do get the vax. Changes in health and performance are readily noticeable in these closely monitored athletes.

Except this is false according precisely to the doctors and trainers. A hoax being promoted by antivaxxer groups to deceive people with cherry picked information that do not correspond to reality.
