“The only mission for the ICBM is to immolate millions of innocent civilians.”

So why not scrap them and turn them into something useful?

Give the missileers jobs that are not boring and that actually benefit society?

The USA has enough nuclear weapons armed and ready to fire in ICBMs, submarines, and bombers to destroy all life on earth several times over. There is no sane reason for any nation to have weapons of mass destruction for committing global suicide. As a winner of the Nobel Prize for Peace, President Obama must know this. The people of the world need to speak up and empower our leaders to stop this festering madness, before it is too late!

The present maintenance of nuclear weapons capability by more than one nation creates the potential for "mutually assured desctruction," (M.A.D.), which in turn ensures that conflicts will more likely remain in the sphere of conventional warfare. That is good. Historical events provided the impetus for the science and technology to exist, there is no going back and that is not bad as long as managed by competent individuals. It is good then to see the top brass making sure that individuals of excellent preparation and self-control are in those posts. Power is nothing without control, as it is said.

Perfectly said, agreed.

There is nothing "good" about Mutually Assured Destruction! I refused a promising career in the Canadian Air Force at the height of the Cold war in the 1960s, after viewing a military training film which showed every type of nuclear bomb blast and the devastating effects. Those humans who weren't in targeted cities would die from the radiation. So the job was to be prepared to murder the entire population of our planet and commit suicide in doing so, on 5 minutes notice! I said no, and chose a career as a mental health care worker instead.

In 2000 I went to Moscow to visit a friend in the Canadian Embassy. A man overheard my wife and I talking at a market and asked if we were Canadian? He said he knew Canada well, as he had spent years off our coast as commander of a Soviet submarine loaded with atomic missiles aimed at our cities. I thanked him and the people of Russia for standing down, and ending the Cold War. There is no sane justification for any country to maintain or develop nuclear arsenals.

I disagree, that is exactly what prevented and kept everyone safe and that includes Canada.

The former Soviet Union was/is not the only threat.

Then there is Pakistan and India, there is a total of 8 countries and 1 maybe. Japan is considered a potential nuclear power, can make them at any time. Japan has nuclear materials and has a delivery system, M-V and Epsilon. The M-V was test via M-V Hayabusa.
