You should have written history properly in the first place instead of filling your textbooks with chest-thumping nonsense. I actually agree that taking statues down is a waste of effort. In this case, the statue was erected in a time of different sensibilities & morals, and you can't change that. Taking down his statue also won't erase the fact that he was a notoriously cruel slave owner and a man who fought to preserve slavery. Statues aren't erected to teach history, but to glorify it.
The final irony is that Lee never wanted any statues of himself erected, he wanted the nation to move on. Should have listened to him.

Gen. Lee's actions after the war were commendable. I would prefer that he had not fought a war to continue slavery.

Just a little over a month ago, the area around Richmond's iconic statue of Confederate Gen Robert E Lee was as quiet and sedate as the statue itself.
Amazing.
the area has been transformed into a bustling hub of activity for demonstrators protesting against police brutality and racism.
Pffft! It's got nothing to do with police brutality or racism at this point, it's all an effort to cause chaos, erase history and take down Donald Trump.
