Sounds like Trump is playing with fire and Americans are the ones who will be burnt.

Not at all, but he is making it hard for Science to stop other medical points of view which is how it should be, let people decide what or who or which science makes sense to them, people can read and research whatever they like and decide whatever medical decision is best for them.

utter nonsense. it's restricting access to data necessary to track highly transmissible viruses. it’s trying to cover up the spread of avian virus strains that are a significant threat to the food supply and health. utter nonsense.

We'll learn why this stuff was important- the hard way. The American people voted for ignorance, death, and disease, and that's what we'll get.

Incredible no national health authority has reported on it in 2024--when Biden was president.
Hmm, but it seems Time magazine (and other media) have reported on this outbreak, quoting CDC . . .

I also noticed that apparently the largest part of the CDC website revision is that all the pages pontificating about "LGBTQ+ health" (a euphemism including things like medical changer change procedure for children) and DEI have been removed or altered. Not surprising, as part of the Trump team's declared policy is stopping both child mutilation and DEI. The article writer seems to have forgotten (cough) to mention that.

Why doesn't this Opinion article provide any information about why there is an indefinite pause?
And putting "silencing science" in the title is really rich, since the Trump admin will do the opposite of silencing science; we will finally get to read and hear about much of the science that has been silenced for decades, especially in the last 5 years. .

Not at all, silencing everything is not even remotely the case, and science do not stop other medical points of view, it stops invalid opinions based on falsehoods, and that is by design.
It has, except that the size is the outbreak is the one that make it important, Trump has explicitly forbidden the experts to communicate publicly about it, guaranteeing that it will grow much more.
That is because Diversity equity and inclusion have been demonstrated to be positive and desirable for human societies, being part of the scientific community means the consensus is shared, unless political power decides to silence the consensus when it does not fit their purposes.
The reason is clear, Trump forbid to provide any information, and is taking out whole systems with the excuse of revision, even when this in no way requires to take out information.
It is silencing science, so vague promises are irrelevant, specially when it has failed several of them already.

The outbreak started early 2024 when Biden was in office yet no national authority reported on it.
Very bizarre reasoning, with no factual or medical basis.
Certainly though the fact the outbreak is being reported in the media in Japan, the US public would be aware of it especially since it is being reported, among other places, locally and nationally, in Kansas, where the outbreak started.

Hopefully this is the end of the science deniers dominance in the USA. The official version of science declared that men can be women, can give birth, women can have willies, children can have dangerous surgery that disfigures them and makes them reliant on daily medications for life. Don’t get me started on the anti women stance of allowing men to compete as women in sports,
We also saw in the name of science led by Fauci a total end to any discussions regarding the origins of Covid and we know why that happened. The deniers are the previous administration Vaccines which were less effective than promised were paid for with tax payers funding whilst the pharmaceutical companies lined their pockets without fear of any comebacks.
The anti science during the pandemic led to economies being devastated by lockdowns, rising obesity and mental illness and annual excess deaths rising. Discussions regarding their choices have been silenced as conspiracy theories and pseudoscience, it had to end and thankfully it appears to have done so.

In his first term, Trump promised to replace Obamacare but it did not happen. 40 million Americans cannot afford basic healthcare for their families.

The size of the outbreak is the one that is of importance, every outbreak was reported in the same systems that Trump silenced.
This is no reasoning it is fact, and it requries no medical basis to demonstrate that Trump has forbidden scientists to communicate.
But not on the epidemiological systems put in place precisely for this and to mobilize public health resources appropiately, the scientific communication is being stopped for political profit.
Putting science deniers in charge will have exactly the opposite effect. When people that baselessly claim the opposite of the consensus are made the top officials in charge of scientific development you don't get less science deniers but more. Which is bad and all for the rest of the world in general, but it is specially bad for the US, that will no longer have the huge benefits (including economic) of scientific development. Universities will no longer be able to patent (and control) inventions and refinements so that will be left to transnational companies and other governments.
That it was scientifically proved that the origin is natural but antiscientific propaganda refuses to even address the evidence and baselessly claims the opposite? you are on the side against progress in this.
When the simple fact that if a person identified as republican it meant a higher risk of developing covid, complications, hospitalization or dying it is clea who was the one anti-science.
The US has no monopoly on science, when it does things against the consensus in the rest of the world it does not make the world antiscience, it just evidence that the US is becoming antiscience. The evidence don't disappear just because the president hides it, and doctors have not stopped complaining how this makes treatment and preventive medicine much harder with losses for the patients that are projected to be more and more important every day.
Which of course is a feature of the actions, Trump did not eliminate price caps on drugs on a whim, the purpose is to benefit big companies that profit from having as many sick people as possible paying as much as possible for their treatments.

There were more cases in 2024 when Biden was president.
It's being reported as of now. Seems like very loud silence. The world knows about it. CDC is still working with local authorities, so no harm.
You have no reference guaranteeing that it will grow much more. other than your non-factually based opinion.
You do not have a medical degree, and you do not even have any medical reference guaranteeing that it will grow much more. So, it is a bizarre hyperbolic baseless claim.

Objectively everything except the birth is scientifically possible.

The size of the outbreak was not bigger in 2024, it is now, so it becomes news, specially when Trump stopped the information system that let people take better actions about it.
Not on the systems made to inform the professionals, this is like eliminating 911 and saying there is no problem since news will report emergencies anyway.
https://apnews.com/article/tuberculosis-tb-outbreak-kansas-largest-b6b58f4f5461abb430745e3a8e7dc758
When professionals call it alarming it is not because it is thought to be controlled without special efforts that are now interrupted by Trump and his order to stop the information.
Prove it, how would you know? are you again making baseless accusations about what other posters do or are? you know this is well against the rules of the site, but tend to do it when the discussion goes against what you want to impose because you have no arguments or references to support your personal belief.

Media should not have to tiptoe around the fascist administration to get answers.
