Steve Jobs may be dead, but the domineering greed of those who extorted his talent lives on. The iPhone 5 will probably be out in a year or so, so we can all throw away our old electronics which end up in a toxic landfill somewhere, and then replace it with new electronics made in a slave labor factory in China. Isn't technology great?

Sounds all good but here's the thing. People get bored with any technology very quickly. Companies need to be competitive and create new products with technology and designs to sell more products and be profitable and stay afloat. Any company that goes stagnant will most likely go bankrupt.

We complain that products are made in slave labor factories China, I totally agree that is not right but when we start manufacturing products in Japan or USA, the prices go high high up and so do the labor costs and we start crying a stink about it.

We complain about electronics ending up in junk fills somewhere, but we also want the latest electronics and gadgets at the same time with all the new features and technological advancements don't we ?

Yeah i know funny how it sounds but that's the truth. We cry foul on one side and want it all great on the other side.

I think if people are really hard core about products manufactured in China under slave labor and used electronics going into toxic landfills, etc, etc.

Please don't buy any electronic product. Please don't buy or support any company that has a factory in China, Invent / Make your own electronic gadgets at home and use it for a hundred years, pass it on to generation to generation so you no longer had to dump it in a landfill.

When Zuckerman eventual passes away in old age, will he be looked at and revered as such an iCon as Jobs? I wonder.

Actually Zuckerberg is nowhere close to what Steve Jobs has accomplished. I'm sure many will argue bla bla but Zuckerberg just got lucky with Facebook, nothing more. There is no innovation in FB, it's just another social network unlike what Apple have done, companies like Google, Apple, Hitachi innovate.

@southsakai

A brilliant and unmatched CEO though, like Eric from Google said, best CEO in the last 50 years.

Who was before that is the million dollar question? Who will come after that?

Jobs was a genius.

His dream and his refusal to compromise took the company he and Steve Wozniak built in a garage to the top. Apple is now worth more than Microsoft.

Without him, we would probably still be running DOS in monochrome.

In the same way as WIlliam Shakespeare didn't invent the alphabet, Steven Jobs didn't personally invent the mouse, CD, USB, MP3 players and graphical interface. But, like Shakespeare, who left us with thousands of new words and expressions, Jobs did wonderful things with those technologies and put them in the hands of the public.

Instead of retiring, publishing boring memoirs written by ghostwriters and appearing in chat shows, he was working and creating right up to the end.

Thank you, Mr Jobs.

Thank you.

He changed the world through technology, He brought us all those cool animations through PIXAR. He brought us wonderful portable entertainment devises and communications gadgets, the ones we used to see in the SCI FI movies.

He was a great business leader with a vision for the future unmatched. He could gauge what people wanted/desired before a product was ever developed and released to the market.

He turned a bankrupt company to the most powerful IT company on the planet. It's a very great achievement for anyone in business.

It is sad he had to go so young. It is too young. He spent all his life for Apple and at the end of the day, I think he finally got Apple to where he wanted it to go.

I just wish he had made contributions towards philanthropy like Bill and Warren did. Remember when Bill and Warren suggested all wealthy Americans give away half their wealth to causes?

I wish Mr Jobs would have joined that club. Because he was in a position and had the capacity to make big change in that aspect.

A brilliant and unmatched CEO though, like Eric from Google said, best CEO in the last 50 years.

Dedication to Mr Jobs and other greats.

they made the new world in the morning happen today and not tomorrow.

don't forget his reach extends into courts around the world as Apple and Samsung duke it out with lawsuits, trying to ban each others products.

Sorry, reality check here. Was Apple ever a one-man company from the start, NO it never was, recall the other founders name? Right now Apple employs thousands of peoples and those are the people that research, develop and program the current products, not the CEO(current or past).

Steve Jobs had a vision and the right skills to hire and motivate people to make that vision into reality. Not really, how often was apple close to bankruptcy because they backed the wrong product/technology?

Jobs is gone and with that is "his" reach. There is only Apple now and we will see what they can do without him.

My school paid tribute to him today. RIP Mr. Jobs. Thank you for many years of coolness.

...what made Jobs different from most other CEOs was his thought that long term innovation was the key. You don't short engineering in order to make a quarter.

Very insightful. I concur.

I think the glasses that look at Jobs are pretty rose colored. Before his ouster from Apple he had a bad temper. Employees shuddered at being in the elevator with him for it may turn into your last moments as en employee. Over on folklore.org the original Mac engineers talk about how Steve might po-po your idea one week, and then the next week pitch the same idea as if it was his own. Many (including Jobs) credit getting fired as one of the best things to happen in order to make him a better executive. He learned how to direct his temper into more productive criticism.

He was good because he had a keen idea of what people want (even when they didn't know it), and he knew how to seek out, and keep talent around him. He's a complex character, full of faults and glimpses of brilliance. Beyond all that, what made Jobs different from most other CEOs was his thought that long term innovation was the key. You don't short engineering in order to make a quarter.

Ten years ago Apple was close to default. Steve ended up selling memory sticks branded as iPod. Apple was saved by Bill Gates to avoid the default by Apple and avoid the Antitrust filing for Microsoft - as we saw for IBM. On top Apple benefit from Govt / Defense investments in the Silicon Valley for quite some time.

I for one would love for my iPhone to be relevant for longer than two measly years. Ten or twenty would be awesome. Not going to happen because this is the dawn of the Computer Age, and like a little cell dividing and dividing, we are barely in the blastocyte phase. It will settle down long after we are dust, I suspect. Isn't going to happen for now. So, figure out how to landfill these things and mine the rare elements found in them.

Jobs became successful because he got so many people to believe in him. If he says this is a great product to buy how ever expensive, many people would consider getting it even when they didn't even have a use for it before. Who else could do that? If HP said the same thing, if Microsoft, if Toyota - would people believe them at their word?

It's not necessarily the products (Apple's products are not always the best version out there) - it's that many people believe in Jobs. If a competitor says that their product is better, would people believe it without checking? If Jobs says the same thing, would people believe him without checking first?

Lets see.

Did Apple/Jobs surpass Microsoft/IBM, etc in the computer market? How many majority market shares did they get worldwide I know they like to quote certain markets). Sorry, Apple still has a minority share in many markets.

Did Jobs make more money than Gates, etc, etc?

All I see is hype and the sheeple buying into it and following as many other brain-washed did before them for millenia.

Not denying that Jobs was a great guy(typing from an old Imac and used all OS for business).

But it was his vision that drove Apple, he was little involved on the technical side.
