Trump's praise of Putin, 'America First' view tested by war

There are several pro-Trump statements written here by this highly regarded AP reporter. It recalls the time when the NY Times published several letters of outright support for then-president Trump. I remember because I learned the meaning of a big word-pusillanimous. As used in the quote, '. . .[W]e desparately needed a seismic change in the pusillanimous foreign policy pursued during the Obama years, which emboldened our adversaries, including China, Russia, North Korea and Middle East militants.' That was written 4 years ago. It makes one wonder what is wrong with being 'an unrelenting public bully.' And where is one when the world needs one to confront a maniacal bully now, as opposed to relying on a bunch of leaders trying to hug it out to show strength?

Yep, and I’m one of them. I honestly didn’t think Putin would invade. Turns out Biden and US intel wasn’t lying THIS time. They knew what he was planning and didn’t stop it.

Posters on this very website said that Russia would never invade, and that this was a fake crisis created by Biden.

Such mottos rightfully reviled yet, some were recently trying to replace it with their own hysterical rallying cry. People know such feeble attempts at creating a resounding aphorism like that may never “Save America From Trump” stupidity. Seems quite saft in itself to ever have suggested it.

That’s quite an unusual stance.
Lots of things didn’t happen during the last guy’s tenure. Is he responsible for them?
Is he also responsible for all the things that did happen too? Ok, sure.

I can't think of a single "right winger" who insisted on anything to do with Ukraine and Russia. I can't think of a single left winger who insisted war was inevitable. But interesting how these rabid right wingers are the ones who want to avoid a nuclear war with Russia while the left are pounding the war drums.
Hard to say. But we know that Putin was a good little boy while his supposed stooge was in the Oval Office for 4 years.
Funny, that.

Don’t kid yourself. Until very recently it supposedly had been avoided. The right wing kept insisting there would be no invasion and it was just the msm and Biden trying to look tough.
What would the last guy have done? Chocolate cake and love letters again?

Of course, anyone with even a slightly enquiring mind knows that his Putin quotes were not made to butter him up but to highlight just how hopelessly stupid the US and NATO have been. This could have been avoided with a bit of smarts and backbone.
and Trump's America First view is very popular right now with US conservatives. It will win elections despite the wailing of the left wing media.

Reported elsewhere today:
"In a bizarre speech, former president Donald Trump suggested a novel solution to the crisis in Ukraine: putting Chinese flags on US fighter jets and sending them to “bomb the s*** out of Russia.”
The former president proposed the literal false-flag attack during a Republican fundraiser in New Orleans on Saturday, where he spoke for 84 minutes.
“And then we say, China did it, we didn’t do it, China did it, and then they start fighting with each other and we sit back and watch,” Mr Trump told a crowd of giggling GOP donors, according to The Washington Post.
Last month, Mr Trump called the invasion “genius”, and praised Russia’s leader, Vladimir Putin, as “smart,” “savvy,” and “brilliant.”
“I mean, he’s taking over a country for two dollars’ worth of sanctions,” the former president said on 23 February. “I’d say that’s pretty smart.”
On Saturday, Mr Trump took a different tone.
“Are all of these nations going to stand by and watch perhaps millions of people be slaughtered as the onslaught continues?” he demanded, according to CBS News. “At what point do countries say, ‘No, we can’t take this massive crime against humanity?’ We can’t let it happen. We can’t let it continue to happen.”
The Republican also said that if he were still president instead of Joe Biden, Mr Putin would never have dared to invade Ukraine. “Nobody has ever been tougher on Russia than me,” Mr Trump said.
During his presidency, Mr Trump repeatedly praised Mr Putin, sided with him against his own intelligence agencies at a public press conference, and held up a military aid package to Ukraine while demanding a public investigation of Mr Biden’s son, Hunter."

On Fox huh? He still has a voice. Has he posted on Truth Social yet? Let freedom ring! (freedom available only on iOS, takes 3-4 weeks to arrive)

What an utter moron.

The former Insurrectionist-in-Chief is partially responsible for aiding and abetting Russia in this cowardly attack on the People of Ukraine.

The effort included holding up nearly $400 million in U.S. security aid to Ukraine and leveraging an Oval Office visit that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had been requesting.
If there was one ,tiny thing I respected about Trump it was his consistent non-interventionism.
However, that didn't exclude his egotism and clumsiness from exacerbating international conflict, like in the case above.
