I keep thinking about the comments from Ford's CEO today, that the effects of the trade tariffs will be the opposite of what Trump is claiming, in that they will be counterproductive, to say the least.

Trump's only doing what almost all other countries do, require investment and production onshore in order to avoid tariffs. Matching other countries tariffs, on a reciprocal basis is by definition both smart and fair.
Trade partners only wanting access to US markets will thus have to pay up, not a difficult concept, rather standard practice across world to give preferential treatment to domestic producers, that create jobs and tax revenues.

Steel tariffs are a tax that the American people will have to pay, reducing employment and increasing inflation. The American steel industry is not currently in a position to replace the steel imports with increased production, which will be a further push toward higher inflation.
Former national security advisor and former UN ambassador John Bolton today said that Trump's declarations about the Russian invasion of Ukraine could have been, and may have been, written in Moscow, and are catastrophic. One could say the same thing about Trump's economic plans........in that they are likely to have a very, very bad effect on the American economy, and thus on the world economy. This will also satisfy Putin.

No one, and I mean no one, cares about what John Bolton thinks.

Western leaders need to realize that Trump is doing whatever he can to weaken the Western democracies, and thus make Putin stronger.

Actually, it's quite the opposite now that we have a real leader in the WH.
