Complete absence of ethics among his believers and charisma, yeah.

Part of the reason may be explained by Max Weber, an early 20th century German sociologist and social theorist. At the center of Weber’s thinking about political authority was the word “charisma.”

The 'charismatic preacher' is a part of Americana.

It gave birth to the evangelicals, prosperity gospel mega churches and the Christian Nationalism that has defrauded many a grandma of their pension savings.

That is the basis of Trump's 'charisma', and TV, Hollywood, glitz etc etc.

Others have been a scourge to humans – including Russian leader Josef Stalin, German dictator Adolf Hitler, Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong and cult leader Jim Jones.

BINGO! JD Vance had the comparison right, even though he tries to deny it now...

5 ( +9 / -4 )

not charisma, it’s simple cultism. no different than jim jones or ishihara.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

He does have a certain type of charisma. He is different to the usual political types.

Despite his age, he’s in some ways perfect for the modern social media age - he’s a troll. I remember an excellent description of him as a YouTube comments section come to life.

He can also be quite funny. Some of the reason why it’s funny is ‘the President of the United States/Republican candidate said what?’. He tweets like a frustrated teenager in his bedroom calling people ‘cucks’ online after watching trash podcasts.

Lincoln talked about ‘the better angels of our nature’. Trump appeals to the direct opposite.

Attractive for some.

“ Of all the questions confronting voters in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, few are as puzzling as the seemingly unwavering support for a political candidate deeply mired in embarrassing sex scandals and criminal business practices. “

Another wildly exaggerated article about Trump—… no surprises here—just presenting information from a biased perspective, from a certain point of view, is just another addition to a long list of reasons why people continue to support Trump.

Trump portrays himself as an outsider who will attack the decadent mainstream system… “

Please elaborate(!) (if the author wasn’t too busy focusing on ancient rhetoric, maybe we could get somewhere).

Note: Coyly comparing Trump to Hitler is a very ugly thing.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Its a well used playbook, but Trump presents himself as an outsider who would "drain the swamp", i.e., he presents himself as an alternative to clearly awful politicians.

He is not remotely an alternative, or an "everyman", but has fame from non-politics activities, distancing him from conventional politicians. The accusation that other politicians are awful is 100% true. Nobody who votes for Trump does so at the cost of not voting for a "nonawful" person. Obama was awful (or weak/ineffective enough to be considered awful), the Clintons are awful, Biden is awful, and Harris is likely to be the same. Sanders has some principles, but the Dems ensured that he didn't get a shot and Hillary "awful" Clinton was imposed on the public instead. The Republicans are almost all awful and so weak that the party has essentially become a cult of Trump.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

The enthrallment with Trump can be easily explained with old saying...

"There's one born every minute"...

5 ( +7 / -2 )

There is a quote from Benjamin Franklin that went (I'm paraphrasing): Democracy is a terrible form of government. It just happens to be the best form. Yes, politicians are awful, sure they are. They are awful every where. It is often a choice between bad and worse. But the US has this funny thing going for it that almost no other country has: debate and compromise. Right now, neither side is willing to sit down and talk with the other. Certainly debate is out of the question. Worst of all, there is no compromise. Without it oiling the wheels of government so that it keeps rolling, there remains just one avenue of resolution. Civil war. Compromise isn't 'losing'. It's sharing. Debate your head off. Compromise (this time you lose a little, next time you win a little) and keep the wheels turning.

As to presidents. I want an SOB in office. Both sides are good at giving us that. Don't forget: your SOB has to deal with all the world's SOBs. Whoever it is, your SOB should have the edge.

See how many of his supporters say they love it when he "triggers the libs" or "baits the left" or whatever, as if that's the only qualification for being President of the USA. I guess having a tendency for trolling is something that's very easy for them to relate to.

What, you don't find that puzzling? I don't see anything "wildly exaggerated" about it.

Hm. Personally I would never compare Trump with any decorated war veteran.

I think a big part of the problem is political parties. Politicians feel they need to join parties to get elected, and that they depend on the popularity of party leaders, e.g. Republican candidates for Congress are scared to go against Donald Trump and lose support from voters he's won over. This means they'll tow the party line which has invariably been decreed by corporate billionaire donors when debating and voting on legislation rather than doing what they feel is right by their constituents.

But when the left go after the right, how is that fair, funny or justifiable?

I guess having a tendency for trolling is something that's very easy for them to relate to.

Well, the left should know a thing or two about it.

Just keeping it honest and real, don't hate the player, hate the game

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

My 2 cents here.

A figurehead was needed to straighten out the liberals, and Trump came around at the right time.

Remember watching WWF as a 14 year old teenager in 1995 and they ran a gimmick 'Bob Backlund for President'.

Bob Backlund had just turned heel and going through some of his over the top rants today, he would have struck a chord among the right wingers as well.

If the left gives in to political correctness there will be a natural backlash from the right.

character traits – ‘charisma’

Typical gaslighting by the mainstream media. The reason that RFK, Tulsi Gabbard, and Elon Musk are now on the Trump train is not that they are bamboozled by any "charisma".... they all have plenty of that themselves.

The reason is that they agree with the Trump policy platform (or at least relevant parts of it), and disagree with the current Democrat platform.

One can read what they say, instead of the media spin.

RFK, Gabbard and Musk?

Their combined charisma would equal a pork chop.

I personally think Trump is a Rob Soul with the charisma of a pickled exhibit at a carnival freak show. However, the audience he appeals to is quite varied. One of my friends is a very intelligent and well-read polyglot, and he supports Trump (or at least he did back when Trump was president; not sure about now).

Interesting.

Whether or not Trump has charisma is moot. You’re welcome to your opinion.

The Harris-Walz campaign are desperately trying to sell faux charisma to voters under the label of “Joy”. It won’t work. That’s not to say she won’t win votes posing as a “build the wall” tough on illegal immigration former brilliant prosecutor, friend of Israel, and wunderkind economist and he won’t win votes posing as a law-and-order governor and loyal Corgi.

No it's not. She's ahead by 11 million plus abortion.

Ok, killing babies, and what about crime?

Lied about the border being secure

-Lied about Inflation

Wants to decriminalize illegal immigration

Supports taxpayer-funded healthcare benefits for illegals

Compared ICE agents to the KKK

Called for starting ICE “from scratch"

Expressed support for sanctuary cities

Opposed sending illegals to sanctuary cities from border states

But yeah, abortion.....

it’s called stopping illegal immigration, keeping legal immigration, since america depends on immigrants for construction, farming, food processing and labor that dainty influencers won’t do. at least according to leaders in those industries. what would they know, huh?

nothing will change the minds of die hard cultists.

”what do you think about biden getting 5 draft deferments, some for bone spurs?”

”biden hates america! and has always used tricks to get out of things!”

”oops, i meant trump getting 5 draft deferments and bone spurs…”

”well, my cousin had flat feet it’s hard to walk…”

Well, Trump had much higher crime rates, so to be fair, he wins on the most crime during their presidency.

I bet you don't know that though, they don't tell you on Fox (Fox lies you know). But the people who don't believer your fake-news far-right extremist MSM will google the truth for themselves, and see that I do indeed speak fact.

Lemme see. Abducting ethnic children, placing them in filthy overcrowded concentration camps where they're starved, diseased, beaten, raped, sterilized. Spankee Dee himself degraded them as 'animals'. That's dehumanizing Hitler talk, folks.

Americans are not so free after all if they fall for these greedy screaming geeks. We need better education, more morality and we must resist these shysters. And not accept such false Presidents and false messiahs, have nothing to do with them whatsoever.

You know he Obama started doing that back in 2014, where do you think Trump got the idea from? The difference is, he was upfront about it. And the facilities were not filthy, there are tons of video footage, links and photos that show the opposite, this is what happens when you enter a country illegally. They had books, toys, basic needs were met. May have not been nice, but better than being in outside in the scorching sun or being abuse by the cartels.

Americans are not so free after all if they fall for these greedy screaming geeks. We need better education, more morality and we must resist these shysters.

So with all the billions poured into the public school system why is it that in states like California a lot of kids can’t even read or are proficient in basic math.

https://darrellowens.substack.com/p/half-of-black-students-can-hardly

For years Dems never talked about this problem, this is another reason why more and more black men in particular are crossing over towards Trump and leaving the Democrat party.

And not accept such false Presidents and false messiahs, have nothing to do with them whatsoever.

Not sure what all that means, anyway...

And he's now kissing an antichrist's fanny.

Well, Walz is doing the same, this is the part of the VP

He's a 2-faced opportunist and he sold himself out.

No, he did the opposite, he’s definitely an American first guy, this is why Wall Street doesn’t like him.

People sit up and take notice when their enslavement is on the ballot, so yeah, abortion.

More important than crime, the border or food? It’s not even on the top 3 concerns for Americans. This is why most people trust Trump on the economy because abortions don’t feed families or pay the bills.

crime is down

Not according to the recent police crime stats. This is a reason Trump keeps picking up more and more police endorsements.

Ok, my grandparents on my mom’s side were immigrants, they came in legally, they followed all the rules. That’s the difference, there are zero excuses for illegal immigration and zero reasons for this administration to lie and allow 10 million of them in and look at us in the face and tell us the border is secure when we know it’s not.

Even the black community is angry and tired of the lies of the left and media.
