The vanilla narrative based AP article....

Since the Black civil rights movement of the mid-20th century, there has been this kind of tacit agreement in the American political conversation that one could appeal to racial animus, but you had to do so in a particular sort of way..

Should have mentioned how Obama started this process..now he was a expert in this arena..

Acree said he was trying to remain optimistic that Trump's defeat marked a turning point for race relations, but then the riot at the Capitol dashed much of that hope.

“I'm worried that this may be only the beginning,” Acree said. “It's going to blow up if our better selves don't rise up and say enough is enough.

WoW..no mention of the nation wide looting, arson and riots for more than half year.. that is what dashed that hope. It will not blow up if the radical left and right are immediately stopped.. but the idea was never to stop this but to let it blow up.. maybe than some kind of reconciliation may start..but very unlikely as nobody seems to want reconciliation.

But in the end, historians say Trump’s legacy — and his electoral undoing — will be largely shaped by rhetoric aimed at stirring significant swaths of his white base that tugged at the long-frayed strands of race relations in America.

Trump forced the believers in critical race theory to confront their racism. You can’t make progress without making the racist Left uncomfortable. Sadly Progressive America remain unprepared for MLKs dream of a color blind society.

That's what the history books will tell us was the justification of the extreme right, when the history books are written.

The dangerous fraud still occupying the White House is nothing but a purveyor of disinformation and misinformation.

He was affiliated with the Democratic Party for most of his adult life and wanted to run for the Office of President of the United States of America as a Democrat.

Nothing he has said or is currently saying has an iota of truth. He is not a conservative, nor he is a religious person. He hijacked the Republican Party and has, for all intentions, destroyed it.

Trump helped to get record numbers of minorities into work, which led to significant rises in the number of Black and Hispanic men, in particular, voting for him. Not enough to get him over the line, but enough to frighten the Democrats. I mean, how dare anyone try to wean their supporters off the welfare state?!

And like Wolfpack said, Trump pushed this divisive critical race theory garbage back in the faces of the identity politicians, who propagate the racism of low expectations for their own political gain. They thrive on race baiting because they have nothing left in the tank when it comes to promoting strong families and a solid work ethic.

Race baiters like Hatch:

Hatch leads the New Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago’s West Garfield Park neighborhood that still has scars from the riots that followed the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination more than 50 years ago. The predominantly Black neighborhood has been disproportionately affected by the toll of the coronavirus pandemic.

The areas surrounding the church have among the highest infection rates in the state. Hatch's church community has lost several congregants — including his older sister, Rhoda Jean Hatch — to the virus.

“If these were disproportionately white people dying, it is hard to see Trump or the nation reacting the way it has in the political context,” Hatch said. “It is hard to reconcile that there are some 74 million Americans — and a majority of white people — who thought Donald Trump still deserved a second term.”

Before Hatch keeps mouthing off, he might want to check how many of the people in his community are obese and living on junk food, and/or have diabetes. And how many of the people who died were elderly and/or in aged-care homes? Illinois is a blue state, and wasn't the Illinois governor out there maskless at a rally while telling everyone else to stay home? He might want to talk to the governor about setting a better example. Also, because of their dark skin, Black people find it harder to produce enough vitamin D, which helps immune function, and low levels of this vitamin have been linked with higher SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility. Northern Italy is Europe's low vitamin D blackspot for elderly people, and look what happened there. Not causation, but there is a strong correlation along with other factors. So if Mr Hatch wants to help improve the health of people in his community, he might want to encourage them to eat better, get more exercise and sunshine and perhaps take some supplements. And not listen to the governor.

@kyronstavic: They thrive on race baiting because they have nothing left in the tank when it comes to promoting strong families and a solid work ethic.

The American Left has placed all of their chips on racial divisions as a means to power. They have been stoking racial animus intensely since the Obama administration’s Ferguson lie. The turmoil of the last four years was completely predictable. There is ample evidence the next four years will be the same if Biden refuses to back off his racially insensitive rhetoric. The back and forth of animosity is a dead end. Since the Lefts toolbox is filled only with racial animosity- they must come to their senses before it’s too late.

That's not the Left but the radical Left.. they seem to be in control now.. thanks to last 6-7 months of looting, arson, and rioting.. many on the traditional left working class have moved to the right..and that's why the left is in panic and over-playing the Capitol card seems to be a way to get them back..

Trump's legacy will be two impeachments, 400,000 dead Americans and an insurrection.

This will be taught in elementary schools and eventaully the answer in trivia games.

Rioting to protest the shooting of a thug with a huge rap sheet is no different than rioting to protest a legal election. More police should have been prepared and waiting for it to happen at the Capitol as they did for the burning down of neighborhood businesses.

Rioters are not peaceful even if they are mistaken in their intentions, it is not the way to go.

The media over here in the States is reporting that Congressional legislators have been briefed by law enforcement that Trump is planning even more violent and seditious acts before he leaves office, in an attempt to stay in office. Given Trump's record, it looks possible that he really does intend to promote an armed insurrection.

He is visiting the Alamo today. The symbolism is obvious. There will be further confrontation.

Wolfpack's criticism of Deomcratic policies on race and poverty gleefully ignores how hard the Republican party has fought against any government measure to help blacks and the poor and how even in states like Illinois Republicans at a local and state level do their utmost to keep blacks and the poor down. He is being shamelessly dishonest. Voting restrictions are one of the current battlegrounds but work requirements for medicare or food stamps are yet another ploy by the right to shove the poor down even further. Regardless of what governors may or may not do, local school boards and town councils make decisions that exacerbate the problems faced by the poor and by minorities. Choices on school funding are critical. Past segregation in housing has not been overcome as white homeowners fight tooth and nail to prevent mixed income housing in their neighborhoods. Try to locate a rehab center of any kind in a city. It's trench warfare and often as not the rehab center gets pushed out into some industrial wasteland where those who need help are miles from anything but industrial tilt ups. Can't have "those people" in our tidy neighborhood. Nope, nosiree. The animus of whites towards the poor and minorities is great and oh so obvious. So the problem is not as black and white as Wolfie would allege and it his argument ignores completely how fiercely conservative whites push against and thwart efforts to help the poor and minorities.

Trumps legacy on race will get even better

Well, it couldn't get any worse. Republicans are the party of people that claim to love America but actually hate most of the people that live there.

Then declare everyone else racist in an attempt to distract from their own party's racist policies.

Trumps legacy on race will get even better after the upcoming peaceful transition to a second Trump administration...

Too late. The transition has already NOT been peaceful. There has been violence in the capitol. An officer was killed. A protestor was killed trying to break into the congress chambers. Laptops with top secret information were stolen. It's a security and intelligence nightmare.

Peaceful transitions of power are how America used to be. But once again the Republicans decided that power was more important than propriety. In four years, bitterly hating the bed they're lying in that they've made, they'll blame the democrats when the democrats try to stop the steal.

These people never learn from their stupidity, never take responsibility due to their American Exceptionalism, then complain when everything is a mess and needs to be made great again.

America is lost.

Even today speaking before departing for Texas Mr. Trump tried to blame the violence on the tech companies and the protesters in Portland and Seattle. Sigh. The old saying is that truth is stranger than fiction but this truth is too much!

Desert Tortoise: Wolfpack's criticism of Deomcratic policies on race and poverty gleefully ignores how hard the Republican party has fought against any government measure to help blacks and the poor and how even in states like Illinois Republicans at a local and state level do their utmost to keep blacks and the poor down.

All Americans should do everything they can to oppose any policy that treats citizens differently based on race. Unlike conservatives, Democrats explicitly specify racial groups for disparate treatment by the government. They write in race into their policies and laws.

This way of gaining political power is the same sick mindset that was used when the Democrats defended slavery and later used Jim Crow laws to set Americans against one another. The party has a never ending fixation with race as a tool to gain and retain political power. The only reason I can fathom as to why they would continue to do so is because history has proven that it works.

That's correct. A blanket approach with no nuance is always the best real-world way to deal with an issue, as evidenced but how great America is, after two Bushes and a Trump.
