Wow - an actual attempt at some balance.

Push for a diplomatic solution while it is still possible.

Sending more and more weapons into Ukraine only ensures more and more fighting - and the constant possibility of the war spreading outside of Ukraine's borders - and then it's WW3 and no chance of putting the genie back into the bottle.

"Mixed record"? That's putting it mildly.

Wow - an actual attempt at some balance.

Yes, finally. But why now? What has changed?

Is this news to people? Ukraine, like almost every former Soviet satellite, has always been terrible. Russia is just worse. If anything Russia gave Ukraine a giant global PR boost and swept their own human rights record under the rug for them.

The U.S. was not measured in this report card, since the U.S. government does not report on its own human rights.

Yes but the US does highlight human rights issues in other countries to make them fall in line, especially if they are not US vassals and don't follow orders.

If they do follow orders though, they get a free pass.

Like FDR once said, 'He might be a (profanity) but at least he's our (profanity)'.

Before the recent times and Ukraine was made out as a kind of Angel state it was often reported about how ghastly the government was. Just because Mr Putin is ghastly and a troublemaker shouldn’t make us ignore how beastly Ukraine has been to its own people.

The world is not in black and white, good vs evil, etc is used to make people think in queer ways and obey the authorities

I haven’t read or seen anything making Ukraine out to be an ‘Angel state’.

Perhaps you could tell us who’s doing this.

Then we could bother reading past this opening.

what a "news" from me.

say banderistan.corrupted country from top to bottom, ruled by circle of oligarkhs, bandits, mafia and nationalists.country surviving from cheap oil,gas from Russia and products made in Russia they could buy at very cheap prices for decades.

even before conflict many especially young people and better educated one have left UA for good-and yes reason was not "bad Russia".ask other nationalities living at UA territory abt their human rights/Russians,Hungarians,Poles,Tatars,Slovaks etc/since Kiev regime know everyone as "ukrainians" so since nationalities are "not recognized"-there is "no issue" at all.no problemo!

Ukraine’s military, for example, is known to have indiscriminately used cluster munitions in highly populated areas of Donetsk – in the eastern part of Ukraine that is occupied by a rebel government – in 2014, killing civilians.

Which is why Russian troops had to move in to protect these Ukrainian civilians.

Kiev used cluster munitions on cities and random neighborhoods with families and school kids.

Let me say that these facts were and still are largely ignored here as does not fit in proUA and antiRU narratives.Just wanted to say so.

Doesn't change the fact that Ukraine still has a right to exist and Russia has forfeited its right to be regarded as civilised.

Is this article supposed to be a justification of Russia invading Ukraine and murdering its innocent civilians in the streets?

It failed.

An attempt at balance, and that is to be commended! This article doesn't mention Zelensky's banning of opposition political parties, though.

Just Google "Ukraine Nazis" and you will find a score of news reports, magazine articles and documentaries from a few years ago about the extreme right in Ukraine from the very same news outlets that now deny they exist.

This article doesn't mention Zelensky's banning of opposition political parties, though.

Nor does it mention the banning of 'unfriendly' media. Or the fact that the comedian was elected on the promise of getting the Minsk agreement signed (and we now all know it was just to buy time and neither Ukraine, France or Germany were ever serious about it). Or the fact that the comedian was going to go for a peace settlement when BoJo, at the behest of America, came flying in to Kiev telling him not to do so, and fight until the last man. Or that Victoria Nuland literally ran Ukraine and chose the top politicians. So many things omitted, but yeah, the first article here to even mention the dark side of Ukraine. And let's not forget the SS symbols and Bandera.

Ukraine is as much of a mess as any nation in that area. Nobody is suggesting that they were angels. But invasion is invasion.

It's not a war, it's an invasion. Wars are declared. Putin himself doesn't call it a war. The rules of war only apply in war. When someone invades your country, there are no rules. Just slaughter them as you can, however you can, and strike back at the invader. They should have sent insurgents to target Putin and the Russian government in Week 1, and followed it up with strikes on Russian communications, energy stocks, and infrastructure. Ukraine and their allies were weak. Their citizens deserved better protection. The result is a pathetic horror show of political theatre that will just drag on.

The US is hammering its commercial competitors Europe, Japan and South Korea using Ukraine (now) and Taiwan (next). Sanctions against Russia and China will see it implement a second cold war as it cannot otherwise compete on the global stage.

Im so disappointed JT posted this.

it was reported some time ago russian war leaders are preparing a big smearing campaign against Ukrainian authorities. Yes, there were problems even before war but how does that justify russian aggression or makes puti look better? Yes, in comparison with russia Ukraine is an angel state. Also it is an angel state because people of the country are very religious, up to 90% of population believe in God, so definitely angels are strongly present there and helping to stand up against big evil till today.
