Believe them, but verify the facts to get to truth.

A few sentences can destroy someone's life either way, so more than just those few claims is required. Evidence.

In this day of cameras everywhere, smart phones with video & audio recording, it is much easier to get some evidence to back up claims that happen over a longer period.

If someone is surprised by strangers, there isn't much that can be done, except to fight back, get some DNA under your fingernails, and notice important details. Hopefully, you don't have prosopagnosia.

Unfortunately at this point it is becoming harder and harder to "believe everyone" and taking this approach is dangerous and can ruin people's lives.

Take any such claim seriously, gather evidence, and engage in due process to determine guilt or innocence. Once that is accomplished provide appropriate punishment (it should be VERY severe in the case of rape or other violent sexual crimes).

I despise Trump however I was skeptical of Smollett's case from the outset (it just did not make sense) and I was surprised how political candidates, actors, etc., everyone jumped on the bandwagon so quickly.

If what Smollett claimed happened had actually happened it would have been a truly disgusting crime. If it did not happen (as it appears) then it is a pretty disgusting act as well as it degrades those who truly have been victims of such hateful attacks.

The world seems to be going crazy...

Verify the facts to get to truth then, if innocent, believe them.

The world has been on the road to crazy for ... millennia? Enjoy the trip.

Thou shalt not bear false witness.

The concept has been around several millennia and is enshrined in law. It’s not a matter of religion, but civics.

Smollett’s alleged lies put a greater onus on true victims. I wonder if he might even have been prepared to attempt identification of suspects in a police lineup had he been given the opportunity. Try to imagine being fingered then having the identification retracted. Quite possibly a job, a career, and relationships destroyed.

Joliet open your gates.

Its actually quite amusing

1/ Did he not think police would look into this when there have been hundreds if not thousands of false incidents like this in America by the anti Trump crowd.

2/ The two alleged perpetrators purchased everything at the same shop, at the same time and they did it together in full view of a camera.

3/ Smollett paid by cheque not cash - did he not think that cheques were traceable.

Lets hope all this helps get Trump get re-elected in 2020
