I think the answer is definately "less". Don't get me wrong, its still hell, but would you rather serve in Iraq where interceptor armor and top notch medical support have kept casualties relatively low, or would you rather have served in Vietnam? Stormed the beach on D-day? Went over the top at the Somme? Participated in Pickett's Charge? You can see where I'm going with this...

Yeah. Triumvere, I see what you are saying. I think it can be said that it is getting better and better to be a combatant. Evacuation and medical care are good. Even in Patton's day, combat fatigue was recognized. You often hear that driving a truck in X battle zone is safer than driving one in Y large urban area. Their supplies are usually good. It is hard to imagine, but something like 10 times as many Americans died in the three days at Gettysburg than have died in Iraq in the last 20 years.

Unfortunately, for non combatants, things are getting worse. Civvies must increasingly rely on infrastructure for everything, and they concentrate in areas likely to be battle zones. It will become even worse in the future as resource wars come to a head. People on the losing side will have their lives disrupted terribly by war. If strategic supplies of materials suddenly become inaccessible, some industries could grind to a halt.

The MACK quote in the third to last paragraph is hopeful.

There is a rich/ poor divide too, obviously. War is getting better if you live in a rich country. You just hire mercenaries. If you are in a poor country, you go from worse to worst. Fetching water from 5 kilometers away is bad, but doing it with no legs...

These ProTracted wars are a great way to make The Federal Reserve bankers richer and allow them to print more money while going after the worlds resources.

I would expect this policy to continue since it has been working extremely well for them ever since 1913 (the start of the private Federal Reserve). What is more important to them is keeping a populace in debt. Much of there money is thru debt service and off course just printing more money. But in the end the money is actually fairly worthless (a piece of paper) so the control aspect is more important.

I really think these researchers just get paid too easy and have nothing to do! Better send them to Iraq for couple months so they can be closer to real war to get more clear idea about war. Scar is the key factor caused war more hellish. Suppose u don’t scare about yourself or your family/ friend live/ dead/ happy/ sad… then nowhere/ nothing is more hellish or less for you. When the Jewry were sent to gas room, what they were thinking is hellish. Some people don’t care anything and stay outside of war zone during war time and keeps making dirty money surely free of scaring. Also I don’t think these sort of things can be analyzed like other issues those researchers do.

Humans have become better and better at killing, maiming, and destroying. Therefore, war is becoming more hellish as we continue to improve our killing machines.

This is the kind of question I ask myself while sitting on the toilet. By the time I have flushed I have an answer. The answer to this one is: it is unanswerable, because every war is different. Even the sides in a war have a different experience. Some ancient wars were just as mild, controlled and short of hell as some modern ones. And some modern ones were as hellish as some ancient ones. Wipe, wipe. SWOOSH! gurgle, gurgle, gurgle. All done! I cannot believe anyone wrote a whole article on this.

Wars are evil and so is violence. Sure dictators like Kim in N.K and the Castro bros. in Cuba are bad, but sooner or later they will get a big kick of karma, right were it hurts the most! Just look at the way Saddam Hussein ended up being executed by his own people.

The course we are on today could destroy the world. Hell would be a walk in the Park compared to what's in store for the whole of mother earth. Hiding on a wee island just aint going to do it. We are just going to have to get along with each other..........
