Europe should take guardianship over the country.

If there were any justice in the world, Assad would be the sole occupant of Sednaya Prison. Maybe with Putin and Khamenei as well.

Europe should take guardianship over the country.

Between Ottoman and, after WWI, French rule I don't think a good argument could be made for that. Their rule is a major reason why Syria is the mess that it is. It is the source of the Arab nationalism that brought the Baaathists to power, and their rise along with their advocacy of secular socialism is what created the schism with conservative Islam that has caused ethno-religious strife in Syria since the 1040s. The Syrians need to figure out what they want on their own.

I meant to say, "since the 1940s"

Fear is indeed justified. The unholy alliance of Turkey, the US and Israel has disposed of a secular dictator and replaced him with a theocratic dictatorship. How well did this work in Iraq and Libya? Biden has now announced that he will be send support the "rebels" in Damascus. I.e. the US is now supporting Al Quaeda. How insane can we get?

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

I am confused.

EU and NATO were behind of civil war in Syria, funded, trained terrorists who fought against Assad.

Now Assad is gone, terrorist became overnight "rebels"/"insurgents" so thats it-right?

You must be happy now to turn secular Syria into "democratic" Libya like failed state...so why WORRY?

About WHAT?

Actually, not over night. Remember the "moderate rebels" that the US and Israel supported before, like Al Nusra? These are the same guys. The Western politicians have learned nothing.

My heart goes out to the Shia, Christian, Druze, Yazidi and other minorities in the new "liberated" Syria.

The new government will investigate Assad and all of his cruelty and torture.

They are also seeking other ministers guilty of the same crimes.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Mark my words the new regime will be one that is fled by terror and hatred and adopting an extreme form of Islam. Woman’s rights will be in tatters and the nations wealth will be diverted to military and military aid for their terrorist brethren in the Muslim world.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Assad is the most brutal and evil man in the whole of the Middle East. His crimes are horrendous.

Oh, I am sure the new Al Nusra government will "investigate" crimes of the Alevite sect. The way the ISIS "investiged" crimes in the Islamic State. And they are so much against cruelty and torture.

That's not even a thing.

How well did this work in Iraq and Libya?

Who else was involved in messing up those countries besides the West?

Biden has now announced that he will be send support the "rebels" in Damascus. I.e. the US is now supporting Al Quaeda. How insane can we get?

You have to offer some incentive to get people to choose liberalism over barbarism.

That's quite impressive that without spending a dime for over a decade they threw down the russian/Iranian puppet.

People talk about the thousands of people suffering under Assad but they fail to realize that these people were harboring the terrorist and Assad had no choice but to give them harsh punishment and the rough treatment! Now the fall of Assad regime will give rise to the terrorist groups and they will export these terrorist to western countries to carry out terrorism attacks! Assad’s treatment of the people was fully justified because that’s the only way you can win against terrorism! Human rights violations should not be mentioned when it comes to dealing with these terrorist because they aren’t human at all!

I suspect the children in Assad's jails were not terrorists.

Assad murdered, tortured, chemical attacks, and barrel bombs against ordinary non-terrorist Syrian, men, women, and children. Hundreds of thousands of them. More than 500,000 were killed.

I do not know about Assad's jails and neither do you. Where do you get this strong opinion from?

Fact is, the Baathist regimes of both Saddam and Assad were strongly authoritarian and jailed political opponents. But they were basically secular and allowed minorities to exist. Saddams PM was a Christian, and one of the main complaints of the Sunni religionists about Assad was that he changed the constitution to allow non-muslims into government.

Compare that to the religious fanatics that have now replaced the Assads Aletive regime.

I find it quite mind-boggling to see people in the West now praising Al Nusra and claiming these jihadis are "liberal". The wishful thinking is off the charts.

There are photos of them now and photos of bodies. You think the throngs of people going there have their relatives in Germany?

We don't know what they will come up with. Syria seems to be a lot more developed than Afghanistan.

As a supporter of Israel, I would think you would be all excited over the destruction of the Axis of Resistance and the opportunity to steal more land.

BBC reporters have been inside of Assad's prison and found appalling conditions. Torture chambers. A human-crushing press. Thousands of cloth items are on the ground. Evidence of extreme forms of torture. Reports from those released some who had been there for 40 years. Notorious Syrian prison.

There is not a single excuse for Assad.

Have your BBC reporters been to ISIS prisons? To Hamas dungeons? To prisons in Egypt, in Libya, in Iraq?

The Middle East is hardly a humanitarian paradise, and BBC reporters can only go where they are allowed to go And of curse BBC reporters have to follow the BBC political bias.

Yes, many of them have. Germany is full of Syrian refugees, many of them islamists who were persecuted by the Alevite Assad regime. Their integration into German society has not been exactly a stellar success. And not that the Sunni radicals have taken over Syria, one should think they are eager to go back... but don´t hold your breath.

We don't know what they will come up with. Syria seems to be a lot more developed than Afghanistan.

We do know what ISIS and Al Nusra stand for.

As a supporter of Israel, I would think you would be all excited over the destruction of the Axis of Resistance and the opportunity to steal more land.

You think wrong. But it is interesting to see such hamfisted and absurd misinterpretation of the point of view of someone else.

ISIS does not have prisons like the Notorious Syrian prison. With tens of thousands of prisoners who they torture.

If you say so. Other media outlets have also entered like the Notorious Syrian prison and others. Have you seen the reports and photos from inside Assad's palace?

Nobody said that the Assad regime or any other in the region has a good humanitarian track record. They are all horrible.

But rather than taking your opinion from the BBC and CNN, have a listen to what Bidens new best friends are saying. You want to be in a prison run by them?

There are no groups in Syria capable of taking over Israel. Conspiracy nonsense.

A Syrian boy, Mouawiya Syasneh started the uprising. Arrested by Assad and killed.

At the age of 14, Mouawiya Syasneh spray-painted a wall with phrases that would have serious repercussions.

What would he think of Assad's downfall?
