We are all propagandists now

They almost got me!

I thought this article was going to show how not sides use propaganda in the US , give some historical background, and other general information. You know, especially with the WE in the title.

But alas, given this is the woke, CRT-driven far left's time to shine in the spotlight, almost at the end the author switches over to, and spoiler alert---The Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection!

Great use of propaganda.

This is a great opinion piece from an expert who cites other experts in relevant fields. It’s unfortunate that these points will likely make it impossible for “conservatives” to understand, but such is life.

*Propaganda is communication as force; it’s designed for warfare. Propaganda is anti-democratic because it influences while using *strategies like fear appeals, disinformation, conspiracy theory and more.

This is exactly what Fox “News,” which is the most mainstream of the mainstream media. Used to drive it’s ratings. It also relies heavily on the intellectual laziness of its core viewership.

Someone took the bait!

The article made some decent points, but made the mistake of not providing examples from both ends of the spectrum.

Fear is the key here. Those living on their nerves and prone to hysterics are the most susceptible.

conspiracy theory

This is linked to fear. We all remember some posters on here having disturbing meltdowns after the last US election. A diet of trash news led them to believe the election was fraudulent, and even worse, the result was about to be overturned.

Smart people in charge. They are working on the idea that you rarely lose money betting on the stupidity of people. Throw in playing to fear and you’ve got a winner.

Some examples of media propaganda: during visits to Mt. Rushmore during their terms in office, the media praised Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama as celebrating American ideals and patriotism. Yet when Trump visited, the monument was said to represent white privilege.

Russia was blamed for interference in the 2016 election won by Trump, but not in the 2020 election.

Oil pipelines are depicted as environmental disasters when in the USA, Biden is honored for stopping them, yet also hailed for stopping opposition to a Russian pipeline built on the same planet.

Trumps border policies seen as racist and inhumane; nothing has changed during Biden's administration, yet the media gives him a pass.

Ad infinitum....

The media reports on what people say. Or are you speaking of opinion pieces? Maybe stop reading the opinions you don't like.

But the media never told us any of what you claimed. The media passed on other people making those claims.

The media reports what the media newscasters are saying, and passes off those opinions as facts.

No, there’s not much need to worry, that’s all just still kid’s playground level. Real propaganda attempts and efforts look very much different and you’d better wish for not ever making acquaintance with it (again).

Correct. The best propaganda is that which you don't recognise as such - it influences you subconsciously. Edward Bernays was the original master of the craft. And literally wrote the book on it.

The writer of this article, on the other hand, wouldn't recognise skillful propaganda to save her life. She simply points to shouty stuff that she disagrees with and calls it propaganda, screaming out her far-left bias in the process. Very sloppy stuff, even for the guff published in this column.

US propagandas do not affect me for they are not based on reality.

We all went to school, and college as well, and we can read and decipher things just like any other liberal, seriously.

This is exactly what Fox “News,” which is the most mainstream of the mainstream media.

If the masses thought it was propaganda then it would be regulated to the relic dustbin of irrelevancy as CNN, the NYT, msnbc and the WaPo that hasn't happened yet. When people start to turn you off it would be the clearest indicator that they're tired and have given up.

Used to drive it’s ratings. It also relies heavily on the intellectual laziness of its core viewership.

Hmmm, unlike the liberal networks at least FNC has a flurry of various people with diverse backgrounds that rage from Conservative, Liberal, Libertarian, Democrat, Republican, Independents something the left msm won't tolerate.

Thank you kyronstavic. Everyone should know who this person was and what they did. He created the modern world of advertising, press releases, flacks, political campaigns, etc. Basically, everything.

He was America's counter to Joseph Goebbels.

You're welcome :-)

For anyone interested, the book "Propaganda" is freely available online as a PDF and worth a read.
