Why do 'non-lethal' weapons maim and kill protesters?

Because 'non-lethal' is a lie pushed by ghouls at arms fairs.

So, what they mean is tear gas canons are non-lethal..... if you don't aim them at people?

It's the same with guns doh!

The above comments are OK but why do governments ‘buy’ that claim without first testing & setting guidelines.

Slow learners, even with explicit evidence.

In the early 70s, two children and an adult were killed by rubber bullets in Northern Ireland. The obviously lethal rubber baton round was replaced by a plastic one.

The first person killed by a UK plastic bullet was a 10 year-old in Belfast in 1975. A dozen more deaths followed - four of them children - before the killing of a 12 year-old girl in 1986. All this on supposedly 'UK' streets.

The known danger meant in the U.K. that rubber and plastic bullets were limited to Northern Ireland

People can be really stupid about nomenclature. Nomenclature is very important. They are not "non-lethal". They are "less-lethal". And yes you do have lots of untrained police too stupid, despite repeated use of their less-lethal weapons, to figure out the harm they are doing and how they are going to do worse one day. And that's not to leave out those who know perfectly well and get off on it.

Okay, if no more tear gas cannons, rubber bullets, stun guns, etc, then go back to using water cannons and high pressure water hoses. Or use fire-fighting helicopters dumping massive amount of water.

They were effective in controlling riots and breaking up crowds..
