beacon of democracy and world leader with its archaic voting and election system?
no more commenst needed...

Irrespective of whether we know the results the night of voting or several weeks afterward, the Repub Party has already morphed into the "we were cheated" party....
The party that stomps its feet like a two year old, yells "fraud", screams "rigged"....and all without one iota of proof...
They are no longer a party that supports free and fair elections - the cornerstone of our democracy....
They are the party of autocracy...just like those countries they so admire - Russia, Saudi Arabia, Hungary....
Remember that when voting next week - and in 2024 - American democracy dies if we let the Repubs taste power again...

I await the results of the next election with bated breath. Will be fascinating to see where the whining is loudest.

Thank you for agreeing with me...imitation is the sincerest form of flattery....ROFL...

That is considered normal, and that is the way elections should always be held. Paper ballots, one day, and that's it, no exceptions.

In Japan, the polls closed at 8 pm and most of the results are known by midnight.
wallace
And Americans living in foreign countries, military people, and people unable to attend a polling station all need a different way.
bass4funk
Good luck to them.
wallace
Nearly five million Americans live overseas plus the military and their families. They vote ahead of the polling day.
You are one of them.
bass4funk
Exactly
Bob Fosse
Why would you give up your vote?
bass4funk
Being cynical
Bob Fosse
Is that just for you or can other ‘exceptions’ be cynical too?
wallace
Paper ballot on voting day only. No exceptions.

No American registered voter can "give up" their vote.
wallaceToday 11:17 am JST
Have you ever held a paper ballot used for voting in a US election, or been in a voting booth on Election Day in the US?
Bob Fosse
Sure they can.
Especially if it is as Bass requests “Paper ballot on voting day only. No exceptions.”
No exceptions! So don’t even think about voting from Japan. Paper ballots and voting day only is the only safe way apparently.

In 2016 there was an obscene number of links popping up all over the place. There was a page showing Don the Con on a treadmill looking at his daughter-wife using a voting machine, with a caption asking, 'Is this legal?'. I went to another tab and soon enough the cursor spun and a curtain of 'fizzy' static descended over the screen. We were under cyberattack. It was after midnight EST.
In 2020 Joe Biden was ahead and all he needed was the six electoral votes of Nevada to get the Presidency. It was the state of Pennsylvania that put him over the edge. Instantly, spontaneously - celebrations broke out in cities across America. If it wasn't for CoVid, I would've joined in but I shook the house with celebration music from my CD collection- starting with that Kool and the Gang classic.

That is not giving up their vote. That is giving up voting.
Americans understand this.
Bob Fosse
Aaah. What a difference.
So Americans in Japan are giving up voting this year. Oh dear.
lincolnman
Exactly....because you never know when Hugo Chavez (dead), Chinese-made thermostats, or Elvis is going to steal votes...
Welcome to MAGA-world...

The UK can fit into the state of Texas 11 times.
Bob FosseToday 01:10 pm JST
Who said that? Americans know differently.
wallace
They do this by not voting.
wallace
The state of Texas is 30 million people. The UK is 65 million.
wallace
Absentee ballots are a crucial part of the American voting system.
Not as bass4funk opined
"Paper ballots, one day, and that's it, no exceptions."

Sure--you should listen to him; so you will stop arguing with him from now then, right?
wallace
I have already posted my vote last week.

Republicans in particular have pointed to perceived delays in knowing results as a reason to be suspicious about the integrity of elections.
Democrats are suspicious too.

bass4funk
No, you misunderstood once again.
bass4funk
We shall see if the Dems still have that so-called magic, I doubt it though.
For some it did.
As I will be doing the same Tuesday night, but I will do with RUN-DMC "And that's the way it is"
ClippetyClop
UK 243,600 km², Texas 695,700 km²
The UK can fit into Texas less than 3 times.
This is the sort of basic misinformation we have come to expect from right wingers. They have no concept of accuracy.
wallace
"No Vote Left Behind!"
bass4funk
Yeah, well the UK doesn't get to say or vote in the US election, so that remark was irrelevant as well as odd.
wallace
bass4funk
Then all comments are irrelevant.
wallace
bass4funk
But you won’t since Tuesday night in Japan, the US polls are still open until Wednesday morning here.
bass4funk
Well, no because the US is having a midterm, not the UK, so what happens there is irrelevant to any US voter.
Semantics, you know exactly what I meant, but to make you feel better, Wednesday is doom and gloom for the Democrats, that's better.
wallace
bass4funk
after years of posting on JT you surely know all of our comments have no bearing anywhere except here.
It was painkiller who made the claim the UK could fit into Texas 11 times. So I suppose you mean him?
The poll results will not even be known on Wednesday.
America is very slow at counting.
bass4funk
Well, we have over 320 million, so I would think so.
painkiller
ClippetyClopToday 12:01 am JST
You made the wrong assumption, because I was talking about population. The UK population would fit into the State of Texas 11 times at the same density as in the UK.
Extreme leftists have limited views of the world.

Except when you don't. There are about 160 million voters and there is never a 100% turn-out. Japan has 103 million voters and usually high turn-outs.
There isn't much difference in numbers.
bass4funk
No, we do.
Japan doesn't have the engagement nor the passion to deeply get into and converse when it comes to politics, they don't have the same problems or agendas.
I disagree.

The debating stops on polling day and has nothing to do with counting votes.
A total of 49.4 percent of eligible voters voted in 2018 (more than 122 million people), compared to a turnout of just 36.0 percent of eligible voters in 2014. The 2018 elections had the highest turnout of any mid-term election held since the 1914 elections. 122 million voters.
Japan election 2021. Voter turnout in single-seat districts of the Lower House election on Oct. 31 reached 55.33 percent, compared with 53.68 percent four years ago, according to figures compiled by The Asahi Shimbun. There were 105,622,759 eligible voters.
There isn't much difference in numbers.
Really
bass4funk
Well, there you go.
