McCarthyism 2 will be viewed by future historians the same way we view the original. Governments will not come out of it well. Learn from history. The biggest threat to your well being is always your own government.

It's simple. TikTok is following and stealing data from everyone and Facebook and Google are not following and not stealing data, it's that SIMPLE. :D

I think the real reason goes something like this.

The USG/Five Eyes have or will soon have their spyware on major internet site servers and ISP systems, allowing them to remotely monitor their own citizens 24/7. Universal surveillance with one mouse click. TikTok may be happy to operate from Western servers and allow that spyware on their systems for Western users, but the USG/Five Eyes will simply not install their spyware on Chinese services, where it can be examined. So they will spin a load of BS about national security and privacy issues, get compliant media like the BBC to run even more scare stories on tech, and eventually ban it.

What gets me is how old the facts supporting the ban are at this point. What’s new is a decent portion of the population finally realizing that the PRC government is not our friend and should not be trusted.
